Xbox 360 Wireless Steering Wheel Causing UI to go haywire

I recently just purchased this: an XBOX 360 steering wheel with a gas and brake pedal.

I also got a receiver to allow it to be used on PC. When I used it with Dolphin, it worked like a charm.

For some reason, when it’s plugged into my PC and I open Steam, Steam goes haywire. I can’t do anything because the controller will open up the virtual controller keyboard. I can’t do anything else in Steam because of this.

Disabling controllers when exiting Big Picture Mode didn’t work. I can’t remove or edit the Desktop layout for controllers because I can’t do it without the controller going crazy and enabling the keyboard again.

Has anyone used this product with Steam, experienced similar bugs and know how to get rid of them?

Why on earth would you purchase hardware which is about 20 or so years old? It's likely incompatible with the OS you're running given the fact it didn't exist when the Wheel was made.
