same ♥♥♥♥ happening to me. steam has been mad laggy when i first start it up past weekish. now its full blown not working. i did try the set the compatibility to windows 8 and it worked for me but this is such a stupid thing to have to do

What GPU do you have? I noticed that when I uninstalled my AMD drivers, it launched fine. Then when I reinstalled it, it stopped working again.

This is exactly what happens to me

having the same problem cant use steam the past 3 days and counting already did a ticket gave them all the info i had if you dont have any files named crash_steam.exe they will say cant help you and look here maybe someone else fixed it. so if anyone gets a fix that would be great

Steam for me has been a but tempromental while I've been messing around with it while trying to fix it. I managed to open it yesterday by reinstalling it in a different location and running it in compatability mode.

Do you have asus armoury crate? Try uninstalling that, worked for me.

1. Open "Task Manager"→Performance Tab then look at the bottom and click "Open Resource Monitor"
2. After you opened the "Open Resource Monitor", open the tab "Details" from the "Task Manager" (Yes, don't close the window)
3. As soon as you open steam, look at the "Open Resource Monitor" and look for "steam.exe". If you find it, monitor your Details tab from the Task Manager. When you see "steamwebhelper" pops up from the "Details" tab, on the "Open Resource Monitor", quickly right click "steam.exe" and hit "Suspend Process". Wail for 1~2 mins.
4. Wait until the "steamwebhelper" stops increasing memory.
5. If it settles, again right click "steam.exe" (It should be at the top in blue) "Resume Process".

the reason this works is if steam web helpers doesn't fully load before steam it crashes

Thanks a lot. This worked for me and now Steam works again as expected, excluded for the app icon that is shown in wrong way in Windows bottom bar.

Yeah the icon on the task bar is just a piece of paper icon for some reason, idk why but at least steam works

Did this permanently fix the issue for you? I've been troubleshooting it for 3 days now. Some things make it work temporarily but I haven't found a permanent solution yet :(

What do you mean by permanent fix? It works for me every time now, even after shutting down the PC, but when the client starts there is always a pop-up about Steam update... at least it works and i'm able to run my games.
