Number of players in the co-op on the game page in the store
Please add a mandatory indication of the number of players in the co-op on the game page in the store. Game developers often do not indicate this information absolutely anywhere, including the game description, forum, and personal website. It's very painful to buy a game without knowing if you can play it with your friends. It's a complete disappointment to buy a game thinking it's 4 player co-op when it's actually 2 or 3 player co-op. It’s also annoying when you skip a game, thinking that there is a co-op for 2 players, but in fact the number of players is 10, 50 or unlimited. Any game on Steam is not a loot box. I'm paying for a specific product rather than playing the lottery and hoping for a better outcome.

Just as importantly, I can't use search to find games with a certain number of players. Let's say today there is a company of 5 people, including me. And we don't plan to throw an extra person out the window. :aurip: How can I find a 5 player game on Steam? :slimehungry: Now the answer is: absolutely NO WAY. This is outrageous :stress:

You're writing this on the forum of the most advanced game store in the world, man.

My experience is that devs apply the co-op tag and that is listed in the column on the right. The NUMBER of players is generally stated in the game description.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is a 4-player co-op action game set in the Warhammer Fantasy Battles world.

Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer (4vs1) horror game where one player takes on the role of the savage Killer, and the other four players play as Survivors, trying to escape the Killer and avoid being caught, tortured and killed.

Killing Floor 2 - 6 player co-op or solo play— A multitude of varied playable characters await for players to choose from as they enter the fray in online co-op mode or solo mode for those willing to brave the horrific specimens alone

It would be good if the tag was "X player co-op", Ill agree with that

As for "outrageous" curb your drama.

Games generally say how many players they support on the store page. If they don't, no harm in asking.

Here are some examples of games I've played that can be played by 5 people simultaneously in co-op:

No, most games do not specify the exact number of players. Sometimes even Google doesn't know. For example, Scrap Mechanic. Some even indicate “you can play with a friend,” as if the co-op is only for two people. For example, Mars first logistics. I already have almost a thousand games on my account. I know what I'm talking about. And I won't ask the same question on thousands of gaming forums, waiting weeks for a response from developers/moderators/enthusiasts. This is crazy.

Took all of one Google search to find this. If you don't want to ask, odds are someone else has already.

For Mars First Logistics, the store page includes this text:
Online co-op for up to 4 players is supported at launch too.

Thanks for explaining to me how to buy games on reddit. Also thanks for the answer about the number of players in the style of "either 2 or 3 or 10 idk". This is very accurate and helpful. The answer "I saw a post that some streamer had done 8 at once" was especially helpful. By the same logic, Lethal Company should have a co-op for an infinite number of players, because I saw 6 players at once with my own eyes (with mods). By the way, Skyrim also has co-op, did you know?

I apologize for being in the wrong forum. I thought this was a "suggestions and ideas" forum. But now I see that this is a "things are very bad and will never get better" forum.

I don't understand what's so difficult to understand about
you can do as many as your internet can handle
unless you're intentionally being argumentative.

Also, I'd like to apologize for me and several others attempting to find solutions to a problem you told us about. Apparently that was uncalled for and we should have just ignored your thread if we knew that the information you were requesting was already available.

"you can do as many as your internet can handle" is just a noname's opinion. Not an offer from the publisher/developer. It would be stupid to refund a game for the reason “I trusted Dave from reddit, but he was wrong”.

Typing a name into Google for each of the tens of thousands of Steam search strings is not finding a solution to a problem. Trying to silence someone over a classic "bucket of crabs"* moment is not helping. Steam is a business that provides services for my money. And since there is a "Suggestions and Ideas" forum here, I don't see anything wrong with making SUGGESTIONS AND IDEAS to help make the service better.

Yes, this subforum is for suggestions. But it is also a discussion forum, in that people can still reply to the topics made. It's generally for the exchange of information.

You'll find many helpful people on these forums who try to resolve issues people have with using Steam. Of course milage may vary on how useful it is for any one individual, but since the forums are public, it's helpful to have that information available for anyone else who may come across it.

Most people are appreciative of the efforts. I know I have been helped and found some very good information in this manner. Of course you are still free to do you. But, perhaps a bit of friendly advice from someone who hosted suggestion forums in the past: those ideas are taken more kindly by those to whom they are directed when there's more honey in the attitude than vinegar.

It’s so good that you write to me about honey and vinegar, and not to people who advise me to shut up, because the world is rotten and nothing good will ever happen in it. I love society.

I really think Steam is a good platform. But I also think that Steam is missing a couple of basic things that could make Steam many times better. That's why I'm here. I write suggestions in the suggestion forum. What could go wrong... Perhaps someone could think that I am a very evil villain, but I am just ordinary human meat, not an AI. I tend to feel emotions. SORRY. Steam is godd. But community... Community never changes....:aunope:

Thank you all for finding as many as eight games out of tens of thousands. Very effective help. I've certainly never heard of them, and I certainly haven't played hundreds of hours ad nauseum. And you are all right. Why do we need all the games in the world when there is Dota? Why do we need strategies when we have Dota? Why do we need sandboxes, racing and shooters when we have Dota? Dota. Dota. Dota. Dota. Why does Steam even have a search for games when you can just leave only the Dota launch button?

Oh I finally understand. Apparently, instead of using the steam client functions, I should write to this forum every time I need to find a new game. Then there will definitely be dozens of caring people here who want to help me find my way to Dota and Reddit.

You certainly should not have to rely on forums/reddit, especially since there are so many trolls these days giving out wrong answers just for kicks.

What's the harm in having it mandatory to put the max amount of players possible (with out mods obvs) somewhere on the game store page? They already show whether it's single player or co-op, and stuff like languages, controller info...

If it helps someone make a quick purchase, why not? If I was a developer I wouldn't want someone to overlook my game because the only info they can find is inconsistent.

Harm? Probably none. It's a fine idea.

The issue is that it's going to take time to implement, and that's if Valve decides it's worth the time to develop and document it. And even after that, the developers will have to update their store pages to add that information to the new field, so there's probably going to be a great deal of multiplayer games that don't have that field filled out for years after it gets added. If it gets added.

And that's not taking into account how difficult it might be to give a single number or range of numbers for how many people can play a game together. A lot of multiplayer games have multiple game modes with different player count requirements. Others don't have a hard limit on player count but have increased system requirements as the player count increases. OpenTTD doesn't technically have a limit on players, but it does have a limit on the number of unique colors available for companies to choose.

A game can say "you can usually have 1-8 players" in the proposed field, but you're still going to need to check the description to know what that actually means. Like most things, it's going to be complicated. And if you want the information now rather than later, your best course of action is to find a game that looks interesting to you and just ask if the information isn't directly stated on the store page.
