I really need help with this Civ addiction - Steam pls think about this!
Started a long time ago with Civ II, used to pay that one all night. Sometimes I'd play thru till dawn then be late for work! Over the years, I dipped back in again occasionally, had to go cold turkey from time to time, but Civ VI really got me, and I have 565 hours of play time logged.

Maybe everyone has a game they are addicted to, something that triggers that internal switch. But I know that Civ players suffer as much as anyone, even the games slogan is 'Just One More Turn', like a cigarette ad from the 50's ('Just One More Lucky Strike!'). Every Civ player knows the feeling, and probably many of us actually have the time and the interest to enjoy that addiction. From my own perspective though, I want out.

Civ comes to me when I'm a bit down, when I'm tired. Recently, I heard a Potato McWhiskey streamcast, and it tipped me back in, I played 5 hours in one go. The next morning I felt sick and I deleted the game from my steam account. But I'd like more help from Steam. I just want to ban myself permanently from playing this game, in case one night, Potato (?) or someone else triggers me and I go back to it. Maybe I'm the only person who has this issue, in which case I guess Steam won't do much about it. But maybe there are others. Let Steam know if you are ou tthere!

Steam is a store, not a self help center. If you want to ban yourself from a game, that's up to yourself to find a solution with your loved ones/therapy.

you've deleted the game from your account?
so you don't own civ anymore?
but... you want something more from steam, where you don't own the game, to stop you playing the game?
🤨

when you say "delete" do you mean uninstall??
as, there is another option

Click Help at the top of the steam client.
Click Steam support.
Find the game.
Click "I want to permanently remove this game from my account"

The easiest solution to a CIV addiction, is to find a new game :-P a better game :-D... For instance.. Try out "Songs Of Syx" EPIC AWESOME NEW GAME....

Aside from that, you might be using Civ to cope with (certain) feelings. So instead of playing it analyze (maybe with professional help) what and why you're feeling that way and spend your energy on fixing and/or accepting that.

As anyone with an addiction will tell you, the world is not going to change to remove all triggers for you. It's up to you to take control.

@ Toby. rowland

Only you can stop playing Civ and Steam Support will not permanently remove a game from your account due to the licence (which you own) and more importantly a time will come in future if they did do that, that you would accuse Valve of removing games from your account because you forgot you asked them to.

Please note: Valve do remove games which have violated their terms and conditions for been on the store but the owner of the licence can still download those games no longer available for purchase.

The game is permanently tied to the account due to the licence. "Permanently delete" is an advanced hide feature so it does not pop up when searching your library. You can reverse "permanently delete" and restore the game.

good to know.

just when i thought i knew what "permanent" meant, valve decide it means something else.

Your welcome.

For me "hide" would be to remove games from my library which i may reinstall and "permanently delete" would be to totally remove games from my library that i will not reinstall.

I do not use either feature as i have collections for this instead to remind me of which games i have licences for.

Obsolete = permanently remove.

Download = hide - may reinstall and replay.

Given that account hi-jackers have already used this delete function to scare people into thinking they're actually support and make them buy steam wallet codes to "restore" their account, Valve was pretty smart and prescient to make recovering the games "deleted" trivial.

I'm not questioning that.
only the semantics of "permanently"
