there is no reason for month long bans to exist
max ban length should be one week. month long is overkill

Someone just came back from a 4 month ban. Apparently not enough to require a permanent, but perhaps they just wanted a break from that guy.
Anyway I really hope the AI system that autobans is not given permission to perma.
I agree, anyone who needs a ban after receiving a month ban prior, should just be permanently banned because they clearly have not learned their lesson.

I wish they'd hand out perma bans more often, save people a lot of trouble here.

"More often" implies they do at all, and quite frankly I'm pretty sure they stopped doing that. Not sure why.

They hand out permanent bans for threats or posting illegal content etc. Anything else is just words and shouldn’t end up in a customer permanently banned from a customer forum. Unfortunately there is a group of regular users here who have the Reddit hivemind mentality of wanting any dissenting opinions permanently removed rather than just learning to accept that diverse viewpoints and perspectives exist and are a good thing.

These aren't "customer forums", because a user is not required to have paid any money in order to post here. There are merely limitations on how many posts they can make a day and their chosen display name will only appear as numbers, that's it.

Yes, I do believe users should be permanently banned from the forums if needs be. Doing this does not prevent them from accessing any necessary services, like support. Nor does it prevent them from searching the forums for answers to questions they may have.

I don't know what group of regulars you're talking about, because I've not seen anyone here on either side of the coin, except a rare few, that actually want to stamp out opposing opinions.

Sure, if they start handing out perma bans in their place...
The length of bans escalate.

Even more so when a majority of the posts from a person is regarding moderation.

sure. but there is no reason for them to be. after all from what i seen and read, apparently they stopped doing permabans for forum bans. so clearly valve can change their mind on things
If anything, Valve should dish out month-long bans more often.

Clearly wouldn't do anything

i been banned for a month multiple times at this point.

They should if anything escalate to over a month. Afterall, if the same punishment doesnt get results then the punishment should escalate until it stops bad behavior.
After the second or third, it should near a year or more per ban. With ban evasion also being subject to punishment.
