Stop treating people as kids
Hi,

So, during my CS time I gathered some items I can sell on the community market. I try to sell them, have to confirm it via email, which is a SECONDARY authentication. And you tell me that has a hold up because I need extra Steam condom from you to be extra super protected? You kidding me?

Isn't this my choice? Can we stop with this pandering and give people a freaking choice of how secure they want to be? I don't want a dumb Guard, I want to sell the items. I have to wait 7 days for it to happen, because... you say so. I have to cancel those items now and list them again, how fun. All that so you can please your stupid managers that something was done and you forced your stupid app on more people.

Suggestion steam:

STOP treating people as children. Offer me protections, nice, but DO NOT force that ♥♥♥♥ on me. It only makes me hate another corporate ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that does NOT need to be there. I have secondary authentication, how is that not good and you super special app is somehow awesome? It isn't, it is the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, but email is not yours, is it, so the app is yours, are you happy now? I am certainly not.

I wish you would have a competitor where I could take all the games I own. Horrible corporate behavior.

It is done that way so that way people can be given a heads up if their account has been highjacked and secure their account and cancel anything the scammer was trying to do with the account.

I suggest reading up on section 1 C Steam Subscriber Agreement. If you understand what "You are fully responsible for all actions on your account, no matter who used the account" means, you'll be glad that Valve added such preventative measurements.

Steam is doing this to try to protect you and others from getting scammed.

Of course, if you try hard enough you can still get scammed, but to some people it's a useful change.

Not much different than almost 10 years ago.

I understand they are doing this to protect me. But I want a choice. They are doing this to force me on their app I did not have on the phone. I have a secondary authentication, so someone would have to steal both the Steam account and the email from me. If someone bothers doing that, they might as well hack my phone...

I resent being forced by corporations to protect me for some reason. Give me a strong warning, give me a document on why this is good etc. Give me a default waiting period for the items to be posted, but let me change it if I want.

I could not sell it on steam, right? I had to go to my email and actually confirm it. So, it was a secondary authentication. And yet... they still have a waiting period, Why? Simple, now more people downloaded the app. Corporate numbers rejoice... And that is done by every corporation. It is now about helping the customer, it is about forcing them into behaviors they want you to do.

Steam is not going to remove security just to satisfy you because you refuse to abide by the security system.

Steam gave people that choice in the past, and too many proved that they can't be trusted to keep their account secure. The avalanche of support tickets from those people affects all users as it keeps Valve from taking care of actual problems other users are having.

Also, you can put the app on any compatible device, not just your current phone. I currently have it installed on an old phone, only using WiFi, that never leaves the house. Previously I had it on a tablet because I originally didn't even have a smart phone to install it on (only an old flip phone that could receive text messages).

I could not sell it on steam, right? I had to go to my email and actually confirm it. So, it was a secondary authentication. And yet... they still have a waiting period, Why?

And for people like you that confirm through email, a surprising number of them not only got their Steam accounts hijacked, they also got the linked email hijacked as well. So attackers were trading/selling off people's inventories, confirming through email, and then quickly deleting those same emails hoping that the user didn't notice them.

When giving people the choice they've consistently chosen the easier, unsafer route.

Policies are designed for people. And while individuals may be knowledgeable and careful, people as a group aren't.

The reason why there is additional security, trade protection is because end users love giving away all their account details to 3rd party skin scam sites.

You're being treated like a child because Steam users have proven they cannot be trusted to resist the allure of a stranger in an alley offering free candy.
I agree it can be annoying (I had it put a cooldown on items I put up on the market because I’d recently changed the device I was using for Steam Guard-the old device was very outdated and I could no longer get to the “Confirmation” screen before the app hard-crashed), so I understand your frustration, but as others have said, it’s there to protect you in cases of hacking.

a lot of the security is there not just because they want to either, they are told too by different governments around the world, they are forced to implement some of the measures, and remember if your account is compromised and there was no hold on the items the thief could trade all your stuff away and that's it, it's gone for good and they DO NOT get reinstated on account retrieval, seen too many posts about people losing their inventory items and then having a huge hissy fit when they will not be returned.

No goverment is forcing Steam to have 2FA or trade holds.
Holds USED to be shorter. But users couldn't help themselves and STILL need to be protected from themselves.
