as said before pretty darned sure that can be done through the steam launcher without requiring 3rd party launcher

Steam is actually the 3rd party launcher for those games.
A 1st party launcher is getting the game directly on their own client.
The launcher the game is sold in should be considered its 1st party launcher
Valve would literally lose some of the largest games to either Epic or MS.
So, what you're suggesting goes directly against what Valve advises their partner devs/publishers.
The very first post is a spot on answer in that thread that addresses the issue perfectly. Whether the OPs want to acknowledge the fact that Steam is the 3rd party launcher in these cases doesn’t make the answer any less valid.
