It's often said that the account (login) name is not a big deal since it's not a publicly visible piece of information. But every time I buy something on Steam, the automated Steam Support email receipt still addresses me using the dumb old account name I picked over a decade ago, and I've grown to somewhat despise it.

Everywhere I look, I'm told that the account name is load-bearing and cannot be changed, not even by Steam Support themselves. So as a workaround, it would be nice to have an account setting that lets users specify an alternate name to override the account name for internal communications between the user and Steam, such as email receipts and support tickets.
