Ignore function for community hubs
Hi,
I would like to see that the function of blocking steam members also take effect in the steam community hub.
I am tired of talking with childs who are not able to converse in a proper way.
It would be much easier if such posts can be set to invisible by just blocking the person.

For the flow of discussion a short automated post which says "the ignored person [enter name here] has posted" should be there instead, so it won't be totally weird if someone else answers to a post which cannot be seen because of the ignore function.
On the other side an automated tag which is applied to the comment and can only be seen by the person which is ignored would be good so the person realizes that a direct answer to the post isn't useful because it cannot be read due to ignore function.
If both persons ignore each other then they will only end up in seeing the "ignored person [name] has posted" post without any additions.

Unfortunately a simple "I don't want to talk with you" also only leads to further offences and doesn't end a negative conversation in a clean way mostly. So such a ignore function would be the easiest way of ending up a hopeless discussion.
It would also reduce the calling of mods where it is often not necessary.

Thanks.

While I could agree on this suggestion, I'd still like to view the ignored comment if I feel like it.
As an example, if I were a group mod, and an ignored user happens to post in the group's discussion, I want to see if he's breaking the rules, while safely ignoring him anywhere else.

And I still can't grasp your tag system on the other end. If that means an user would know that a person has blocked him, I'd go against it. There are users who block ex-friends especially because of harassment, and the risk of them threatening the blocker under new accounts is too high for me to agree with such an information flag.

Has been asked for before, and yes, it would be nice.

Would like to see that too.

Well mostly those were just suggestions of how it could look like. I would be pleased of every useful ingoring effect on the forums.
I am just a bit disappointed that I can block people and be able to play on without any insults ingame but this blocking doesn't have a similar effect on the forums of the community hub.

The option to still view a comment of ignored people sounds nice.

@Jade
Ah well, I wasn't aware about that.

For myself I am not interested in ending up insulting people when there is a very awful discussion going on which I formerly joined because I was just interested in reflecting my own thoughts about. My emotions can lead to an escalation when there are people who seem to get offended by every single word which was written and write some unfriendly and inappropriate answers.
So such a function would be indeed quite nice...

I would also like the possibility to ignore people in the Steam forums, comments, and reviews. Although to be honest I’m not sure how practical that would be in a 70 M people community; there will always be another stupid 12 year old to ruin what could have been a constructive discussion. But it would still help in specific threads where the same people keep replying.

"ignore user posts" comes as a default feature with practically all pre-built forum packages such as vBulletin, MyBB, phpBB, ZenForo, etc in forms of "block list" or "enemy list". This is a basic and mandatory feature that any type of discussion board SHOULD have and most of them already do.

Whether this system can be easily bypassed or abused is another subject entirely, in most forums, you aren't allowed to have multiple accounts in the first place.

By the way, I'm bumping this because I was gonna suggest the exact same thing and figured it's probably already posted a billion times before so I searched and found this. I think It's about time steam gets this feature

Irony of the grammatical error in the second sentence make anyone else laugh?

Also a quick forum search shows that steam has already decided "no" on this. I would love the feature though, it would let me ignore childs who don't use the search function.

Because really, we don't need the forums being a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ drama any more than it already is.

They had the feature in the old forums. It didn't work or help with the issues.

Steam's forums are custom made buy Valve.

No feature is basic or mandatory. Some people may want it, some may not. It is up to those who own the forum to decide and since Valve did not bring the feature over from the old forums, I do not see them adding it in on these forums.

Seeing as this thread is two years old, you could have found a more recent one to post in.

Well, they finally added that function.

If I see a post of a blocked user there is now only a thin line with "Blocked user - Show", where "Show" is a button to expand the post for being able to still read it.

I couldn't have asked for more, thanks. :)
