Hi, I am from support, you are about to be blah blah blah....
Sorry, I reported you by accident blah blah blah....
then you have the fools that like to use 3rd party sites for trading or buying/selling skins and hand over their log in freely because the site gives them a "special" deal for advertising
no amount of security will stop people from doing stupid things. some learn the first time something bad happens, some learn after a few times, and there are those rare few that never learn and should be removed from the gene pool.
when you make any kind of security optional, the people that need to be using wont use it. again, there are some people that should be removed from the gene pool...
*Going to delete worthless item that is right next to a super valuable one... oops..."
Valve: Here is 2fa, it generates on your phone app, this is to allow secure login
User who has provided their 2fa to a scammer: this trade site won't let me confirm my trades and now my items are gone, I didn't log into any scam sites just (insert Asterix) they're a well-known site, help this is my brother's account !
This goes beyond steam as well in regards to suggestion email which is vulnerable to hijack for the very same reasons. If people were to take better care of their accounts then these band-aids that are suggested would not be needed, band-aids get added and because of the weak point being the user requires more and more measures.
It can prevent someone offering trade for something like spells or killstreak for the price of cheaper counterparts in the inventory relying on low attention of a seller
I know "check trades 10 times before confirming" but at least it will be a good quality of life change to prevent accidents

No, they really don't.
There are only 2 real ways to get "hacked" on Steam.
1. Someone with your login name and password can somehow beat the 1 in 60,466,176 odds on guessing the right 2FA code that keeps changing.
2. Someone using email authentication gets both their Steam AND email login names and passwords leaked. Then the attacker can try to intercept and delete any emails involved with whatever activities they attempt on the Steam account, hoping that the user doesn't ever notice.
If you use the Steam app and/or properly secure your email account (with 2FA if available), they only way someone is getting in is if the user gives their Steam login credentials to that person.
