Valve enables toxicity by not letting users hide bans on their Steam profiles.
Once upon a time, users used to be able to hide their bans by removing the affected games from their accounts via Steam support. Unfortunately, Valve deemed this as problematic and decided to get rid of that entirely.

I guess they would rather see users get harassed on the forums by mentally unstable strangers, that always feel the need to bring up bans, even if it's over a thousand days old and is completely off-topic to the discussion at hand.

Not everybody on Steam that you see with a ban on their profile got that ban from cheating. Also, most of the people that you think are cheating, are probably just better than you at video games. Getting exposed in an online multiplayer match is not a valid reason to get on the forums and attack people with red text on their profile.

Some people really need to get over themselves.

Where are these users being harassed for having game/VAC bans listed on their profiles?

Don't cheat in games, and you will not have a ban on record on your profile

Two people with no bans on their profiles, questioning harassment towards people with bans on their profile.

Interesting.

False.

You can receive a permanent ban without cheating.

If you have proof of this supposed harassment, by all means, share.

Either way, I can already predict where this thread will end up going.

And I can already predict that I wouldn't be able to change your opinion on this matter, seeing as how you outright said it's nonexistent.

So why would I trouble myself with your mental gymnastics?

If you're truly determined to find proof, you can find it on these forums.

You're the one making the claim it happens. So please show proof of it.

And to clarify, I do not condone harassment of any kind, including what you have described.
OP, you are claiming that harassment is happening, so thus it is YOUR responsibility to PROVE there is harassment going on.

So show your proof.

I think people with gamebans might enjoy the same feature as people who receive vacbans. make it hidden after X amount of time, especially if its for Valve games.

But to my knowledge, even if you removed the game from your profile, the ban still stayed.
Even if there was harassment, the fact is the bans need to be publicly visible so server owners can access it and restrict people with bans from joining their servers if they want. So the need for it to be publicly known outweighs any slight negatives.

If someone harassed you over it that is against the rules, so just ignore those users and report them. The bans will always be visible in one form or another so those who host servers can block those people if they wish.

Even if removed from the profile its still visible in the backend because it needs to be known to server owners so they can block those users from joining their servers.

Players deserve to know whether others are/were cheaters or problematic in other games.

Can't deal with it? Don't cheat and don't be a nuisance.

Create a new account if you wish to get rid of the mark.

This appears to be the context;

I've had a game ban on PUBG for almost four years and counting. And even though I don't care about the game anymore and have no desire to play it, It still sucks that my profile will forever have a "game ban" marker on it that I'll never be able to remove.

I could get into the gritty details about that game, like how Krafton can permanently ban you for almost anything; including TK'ing, advertising, AFKing, etc, but unlike the situation with the OP here and their game ban; my ban was justified. I won't deny that my behavior on PUBG was questionable. My in-game name was FAT_PENlS for goodness sake.

Interesting.

Well, very limited history but it doesn't seem like it's happening, so much as the desire to be able to remove visible game bans.

Even after being threatened with a permanent red mark, people keep cheating anyway. You can imagine what would happen if users could freely hide it.

VAC can be invisible after 7 years and you still have the gall to accuse Valve of 'enabling toxicity'. Perhaps VAC shouldn't be invis after all.
It's probably been stated in this thread, but talk to the developer. They are the ones that decided that it stay indefinitely. VAC bans are hidden. After about 7 years. Game bands are visible indefinitely. Nothing to do with Valve.

Also, gang bans are indeed given for cheating, among other reasons.

Also, considering that Valve and other developers considers those other things to be as bad as cheating, it really doesn't make a difference

This is also probably been stated in the thread, but even if it was hidden there are ways to see it, regardless

This is certainly true in the case of vac bans and it would be the same with game bans as well but there's no need. As stated before, they are never hidden regardless of age.
