Mute toxic news
What i consider toxic would be : Plushies, kickstarter bs, anything not playable on PC. Would love to have the option to avoid those as i currently need to mute weekly these spam just to read real patchnotes ! Cheers

+1. News should be about the game only.

Go into the settings for the What's New shelf and show less of that particular type of update and only show updates for the games themselves.

If you follow a game hub, you are signalling to Steam that you want to see additional news.

Cross promotion events are only displayed to the "most engaged fans".

what do you mean by "follow", you talking about "subscribed" to the forum (game hub) itself?

Follow the game from the store page.

ah ok, well thats odd, i dont follow any of them (any of my games) and i still get spammed by dev ads, events, ect... when all i need is patch/update notes...

one example is pubg.... i have been spammed by them recently with repeated and multiple daily ads/events/ect.. (4-5 of them in rows, repeatedly, daily), even made a thread asking they stop spamming those things, shouldnt have to ignore them completely and miss updates (well other games, dont play pubg anymore) :cqlol:

its quite annoying.

thanks, have a nice day

Owning the game nets the same result. Even still, you can change your news preferences so you can see what you want.

I feel like those are probably in violation of steams rules, somewhere, especially if they are advertising a 3rd party product. You know, because steam should be getting a cut of advertising...which I'd imagine they aren't, so I suggest reporting those to like steam support or something.

It's not, you're just wasting Steam Support's time by doing so.

hmm...looking it up, looks kinda different than you say:

All news posts have to go through moderation before they can be seen in news feeds. If Valve had a problem with a video game developer having a plushie for sale, they would have done something by now.

None of what’s being discussed seems to be against the rules. What’s not allowed is using paid advertising as a business model (forcing players to watch ads to play, offering rewards for watching ads, etc.) says nothing about not being allowed to advertise offers for physical products and other things outside of the Steam platform.

Not liking something doesn’t make it “toxic”.

"However, under no circumstances is it okay to charge other developers to participate in a bundle or to sell access to a sale page or other page on Steam."

So if they are putting ads on steam, it can't be something they are selling the ad space of.

They’re not selling access to a sale page. That would be if someone has to pay just to have access to the sale page or charge other developers to take part in a bundle sale you are organizing (for example if you want to set up a roguelike sale, you can’t charge other devs to bundle their games into your sale).

Yeah, that's not what that rule is about. That is talking about trying to charge another developer to be included in a game bundle or trying to charge users to access pages on Steam.

It's literally in the words you bolded... advertising third party products =/= charging money to access a page on Steam.

Read that same section you gave for what's actually relevant here:

"Promotions may involve other Steam products, or products/brands outside of Steam. These types of promotions are encouraged and many customers find value in them."

There is difference between not liking and straight eating unwanted unasked advertising. But if u like these suit yourself you must be in heaven

Selling access to pages on steam would include selling access to advertise on steam.

You can promote what you want, yes, but you can't be paid to promote things if said promotion involves selling access to a steam page.

Game developers aren't "selling access" to their news posts about merch or crowdfunding. They're not "selling" advertising space to themselves.
