Add an option in the Steam settings to make the X button on the top right corner exit
I couldn't find another post in "Suggestions/Ideas" about this, so I thought I'd make one myself. If one does exist, let me know and I'll take this down.

So basically, when you close the Steam window using the "X" button, it continues running in the background, as if it was minimized rather than actually closed. To fully close the program, you have to click on the Steam logo and then click "Exit". This is very efficient for people who game regularly, since it makes opening any Steam game much faster, and it's actually not very hard on your PC. It's designed very well so that the processing power required is very minimal when it's "minimized".

However, I personally am very particular and I like to be fully in control of my PC. It would be more convenient if there was an option to make the "X" button do what the "Exit" button does. I still think this option should be disabled by default, but I know there are other people out there like me who would also benefit from this feature for a myriad of reasons, or would just find it particularly convenient

I know this cuz I've found a couple of posts on Reddit and in Steam forums, (not "Suggestions/Ideas" though,) who have expressed the same sentiment and have had a ton of comments agreeing with them. I hope you guys consider my suggestion! It would be very helpful

Thank you for reading!

+1. Dunno why so many programs use the X button as an alternative minimize button.

yeah, I always change that if I can. I use Linux specifically to avoid this kind of stuff rofl since it has way more customization and control options

How does the ideas forum work? And what gets seen and considered by the Steam team?

Valve does peruse this forum. They won't post here though.

What is or is not chosen to be added is basically down to if one or more employees decides they like the idea and add it to their list of stuff to do. Then, it may sit on the to do list forever or be implemented at some point.

Steam people will never reply here. They say they read it. They probably do at least scan it from time to time. Some suggestions from here have been added, plenty of others(good and bad) have not. This is also where support people send users complaining about things they can't help them with.

That said, being able to set the options for the X to actually close steam as is often an option in other programs is a pretty common suggestion. I'd like it to be that way myself but one extra click to close it isn't that bad. It hasn't happened yet but maybe someday.

i think the suggestion is good, but i also like having clicking the x closing it and only being in the "hidden icons" section on the right of the task bar, instead of minimizing and cluttering the actual task bar.

currently, whether steams up on screen or closed, i mostly just right click steam icon and click exit, as its an option in settings (among many others you can add to it) , that you can have shown in the right click context menu, for the steam icon.

settings/interface/show taskbar preferences

if something like this was implemented, i would hope that it doesnt remove the ability to close it and not have it sitting on the task bar, but still only being in said "hidden icons" section on the task bar.

have a nice day

Dont worry, this suggestion shouldnt remove anything. The feature i recommended would be turned off by default, and its your choice whether to leave it off or turn it on :3
