Hardware survey needs improvements
It isn't much informative. For example it is mixed statistics of laptops, ultrabooks, tablets, modern PCs and obsolete core 2 duo/xeon CPU based computers that for some reason still operating without upgrades more than a decade.

Statistics would be more informative if they would be displayed by device class, not only super rough overall summary, statistics should be more fair. For example "6 cores is the most frequent CPU configuration". But what 6 cores, on what platform, what generation. Is it some kind of ryzen 3600 or it's amd FX/Phenom? Is it mobile or desktop cores? Do they support SMT/MT? For what period of time?
Also Intel/AMD statistics for 2025 gaming PC configuration is also not so relevant, including obsolete e-waste like old 1-3 gen intel isnt' good idea.
Also storage types isn't specified. Sata SSD, pcie gen 3/4 or 5 m2 SSD or even HDD.

Statistics should be improved for giving more precise picture of gaming machines in nowadays.

But most of those aren't quite relevant as you'd think.

Why?

How does the data it collects of value to you?

The data is for Valve's use and whatever value they place on it. It's display to us is more for transparency and curiosity of the results.

The statistics get filtered for each game on Steam, so game developers are looking at a sample of their playerbase, not a sample of all people who play games ever.

A breakdown of detailed stats in the Steam Sales & Reporting portal, select your game and then find "Hardware Survey" in the upper-right corner, correct?
