Suggestion: Make Steam chat easier to use for new accounts
hey i’m serina 💜 just started using steam and it feels super limited, like i can’t message people properly or start conversations unless they add me first? maybe steam could make a light version of chat for new users or let us use stickers or something fun without full unlocks?

anyone else feel like chat here’s kinda awkward compared to discord or telegram?
(also feel free to add me if you’re chill, i’m just here to vibe and make some gaming friends lol)

No, you shouldn't be able to message random people, that would result in non stop spam or scam attempts.
Spend $5

You REALLY don't want that to be a thing here.
That makes sense..

Spam would be off the charts.
It'd make the old 'getting several hundred friend requests a day' days seem like a walk in the park.

Oh thank the gods it's like it is ...

I can think of far more delightful things than being pestered by some randoms who thinks opportunity equals invitation ...

Steam used to allow you to message random people.

It was used constantly for scams, impersonation, pestering for trades, toxic/hateful messages, and general asshattery.

When that was removed, they started using the feature to invite you to groups in order to send you messages. Then they removed the ability to send group invites to people you are not friends with either.

I got so many group invites because people were mad that I did a shieldless katana hexer in dark souls 2 red arena. Dark orb+great heal excerpt and dark(not resonant) weapon, I think I had like an 80% win rate with that combo.
