Scottish Gaelic
I'm putting this here because I keep requesting Scottish Gaelic to be added to steam so there can be more games added there is already scots been added what is good but because Scottish Gaelic was recognized as a full language in the Scottish parliament I think it should be added or at least put in the additional languages

Scottish Gaelic is not added because there are not many people who speak it.
Imho, great language.

Isn't Scottish the language where you use profanities as terms of endearment?

I saw something about that on the parliament bill in the link below:

https://www.parliament.scot/bills-and-laws/bills/s6/scottish-languages-bill

I'm learning scottish gaelic at the moment and I feel like this could be a good way to modernise it and encourage more people to learn. Gaming after all helps people learn languages alongside education. I think because the bill has been passed it's a good idea.

People who say not many people speak it is false. There is more and more people starting to learn the language, and after the bill many young people will start learning it. What better way to celebrate than add Ghàidhlig/scots gaelic to gaming through steam. It would be a good thing and I hope it gets added.

Ghàidhlig/scots gaelic might have been a dying language in the past, but that is not true anymore. It's a thriving and expanding language that more and more people are learning everyday. There are even developers on steam that want to make games in the language, but without the support from steam it can't become a reality.

A complete non-issue. Supposed "resurgence" or not, the number of people who speak the language are minuscule.

"In the 2011 census of Scotland, 57,375 people (1.1% of the Scottish population, three years and older) reported being able to speak Gaelic, 1,275 fewer than in 2001. The highest percentages of Gaelic speakers were in the Outer Hebrides. Nevertheless, there is a language revival, and the number of speakers of the language under age 20 did not decrease between the 2001 and 2011 censuses.[7] In the 2022 census of Scotland, it was found that 2.5% of the Scottish population had some skills in Gaelic,[8] or 130,161 persons. Of these, 69,701 people reported speaking the language, with a further 46,404 people reporting that they understood the language, but did not speak, read, or write in it.[9]"

The data you have provided is severly out of date. 2011 is 14 years old now. That's a long time ago to go on data from so long ago. There has been a recent spike in learners especially so during and after 2020. Myself included and a couple of my friends who are all from scotland and living in scotland gained an interest in the language during this time. Using resources like speak gaelic.

More and more colleges in the region are supporting it too and even schools thanks to the bill will be starting education all across scotland which will increase the speakers even more. I even have a couple friends who are fluent speakers and even they said they are seeing the growing trend of people learning the language.

I would like to see a census done from 2025 to see the numbers but as it stands 2011 being before the spike in interest it doesn't hold up as a good argument against in my opinion.
I'm not opposed to more language support but I wouldn't get your hopes up about it happening anytime soon. It took them years to add support for a new language (Indonesian, which has FAR more speakers than Scottish Gaelic even if we assume the number of speakers/learners has gone up in recent years).

That data includes that from the 2022 census, so youre wrong. Period.

Dress it up how you want. The 2022 census says that 70K people are fluent in the language with another 45K that can understand it but not read or write,

These are insignificant numbers for a global platform and considering that pretty much every one of those 70K are also fluent in another language, namely English Id assume.

In a country of ~5.5 million. Even in your own country you represent an insignificant number of people.

Now, of those 70K how many are Steam customers? Now we are talking about a small percentage of an already insignificant number of people.

The suggestion has ZERO business merit, especially and as mentioned, because an almost zero number of those Gaelic speakers do not also speak one of the "most spoken languages" on the planet.

Look, enjoy your hobby. I respect it even. Just dont expect the world to change when not even 2% of your own country speak the language.

Where excatly are you getting the 2022 data? because I went on the Scottish census and all I can find is the 2011 data. The 2022 data isn't anywhere to be found. I'm just curious where you found it is all. Link provided below if helps.

The footnote in the section I quoted links to here:

https://www.scotlandscensus.gov.uk/2022-reports/scotland-s-census-2022-ethnic-group-national-identity-language-and-religion/

Ok thank you for the link,

People who speak gaelic or learning it aren't asking to change the world, all we're asking for is a chance to spread the word of it and make people more aware of it who are eager to learn it.

There are people who are native speakers around scotland too, who are wanting to upload their games in gaelic, but due to steams limitations they cannot upload them to the platform. If steam adds scots gaelic it we would be able to finally get those people's games on here which would be great opportunity for them and people who have an interest in playing games in that language.

Just want to say that I think this is a fantastic idea!!! Language revivals don't happen overnight - but just look at Wales, and the way Irish is taught nationally in Ireland. Any step towards Gaidhlig's progression is a great idea! :)
If Minecraft can be played in Gaidhlig, it can be added to Steam.
Look how long it took Valve to support Indonesian and they have a much higher user base.
