Add an AI-generated summary of all reviews
With the huge amount of sh*tposting, review bombing, and extremely long reviews out there, it would be nice to have AI that analyses all the reviews and automatically displays a conclusion or summary based on everyone's reviews.

This AI could be adjusted to summarise reviews according to specific dates. This could be useful, for example, to quickly find out why a game is suffering from review bombing or why it has started to become popular again based on what people are saying.

YouTube did the same thing, bringing AI summaries to peoples videos, and everyone hates it, i'm genuinely asking you, what makes you think Steam users won't hate AI Summaries being fed to them?
Good idea. Then we will get people deliberately seeding the AI.

Reviews are already a deliberately seeded and manipulated metric in their current form. Changing the metrics would not likely meaningfully increase the activity but change the form and target.

LLMs are a big mistake for the majority of current applications. ai-generated summaries fall largely within that domain as things currently stand, in the sense that it'll lead to problems down the road.

local assistants running purely on the host device will eventually be a thing, and it's probably better to leave these sorts of things for that point in time. current llms reinforce the "being in a bubble" effect, and it's not a good thing.

ai generated reviews, ai generated summaries from reviews, ai model gaming of phrase for favorable summaries.. like teachers using llms to grade papers and students using llms to write the papers, one has to wonder what the need is for the middle man at all, eventually.

not to mention, llms waste huge amounts of energy, they're not efficient. leaning into them left and right is becoming a big problem already, much of it for that very reason.

""Game is recommended by the majority of users because:

Good system sounds real good.

I hate AI generated stuff but the way Amazon does it as the op describes is not the worst thing in the world, especially to quickly navigate reviews but not in lieu of still reading through them. It doesn't do much to solve the problem of review bombing though.

So make AI generated slop from user generated slop? Sounds useful. /s.

All of the AI summaries out there are subpar and often full of errors. We need less of them, not more.

AI is pretty controversial, but I wouldn't mind seeing this. The AI summaries on Amazon are actually pretty helpful, as long as you don't take them as gospel and just use them as one more point of information when making a decision.
