Employ Forum Moderators
Shocking idea, i know. But the forum have been a cessspool of hate and insanity over the last 5-10 years. Almost no moderation happens anymore. People got used to not getting punished when they spew hate and just straight up insult people.

We need people who clean up this, and actualy maybe restore the forum to what it used to be, an actual respectable environment to discuss games.

They already do.

Not anywhere near aggressively enough. Most new big game releases have weeks where the forums are useless because of trolls and spammers.

Not much of an issue when the devs are moderating their board themselves. When it comes to those who let Valve do the moderating, it's a bit more complex. Mostly because of the sheer volume of different boards they are moderating. They must be buried by reports at this point.

I doubt Valve will do anything because the only solution, at the end of the day, is more people. And more people = more money. The forums don't exactly generate income, at least not directly.

Moderation lulls in activity over the weekend, something worth keeping in mind.

Your post history kind of is a self report. Mocking people is a pretty surefire way to get bans.

Usually those who don't like the moderation are those who get moderated for good reasons.

Yeah getting into insult wars is a quick way to get shown the door, that's for sure.
What's more is that reporting a lot of toxicity usually ends up in threads simply getting locked and every toxic person going unharmed. I know I mentioned this before.

Went from no forum mods to they are not aggressive enough. Pick a goalpost.

Done. The paid mods fully took over that next day.

If you want an echo chamber, you can always go to GameFAQs. Unfortunately, they are a dying website as it continues bleeds users as people get sick of the mod enforced political correctness. Pretty soon there won't be anyone left to ban. But hey, if you are part of the hivemind, you are all good, until they decide to turn on you as the users inevitability start eating themselves.

whats an "echo chamber" have to do with the horrible moderation around here?

getting false banned and wasting time going to support (which can take hours to a whole day before you get a reply) for them to remove, what they state is an"unwarranted" ban (even multiple... say 6-7), even "unwarranted" warnings (say 2 of them), isnt what i call wanting an "echo chamber....

fact remains, the job done around here has been horribly poor.

even ex volunteer moderators have said the same thing.

just saiyan

have a nice day

The old system was terrible. Community mods were biased, and had essentially no oversight. As Steam became ever more popular, they basically formed their own fiefdoms composed of brown-nosing orbiters, and doled out favoritism or abuse according to their whims. The current system relies on paid staff who are much less prone to bias and favoritism, with oversight and the ability to escalate tickets to senior staff.

That's some great fiction you write. If you stick around here long enough, you'll see many complain about how the current paid staff is prone to bias and favoritism with little oversight and has no idea what they're doing let alone how to escalate tickets to "senior staff".
