Due to regional price differences, the gift you are trying to send cannot be sent to the recipient's region.
If Steam wants players to actually "play together" - then please let us and even encourage us to do so. Maybe by letting us buy games for our friends. I don't really care if the country has a price difference - if a zillion online merchants can do the price conversions so I can buy and ship to my doorstep (or have it delivered to a friends address in any other country) from ANYWHERE - Steam should have the same capability to do so.
I asked my US friend to check the price - and it is $2 difference on a game currently on sale for $12. How about you let me pay DOUBLE the difference in price, PLUS a $5 "filing fee" - just figure something out so every Steam player CAN buy ANYTHING for any other Steam player. This is 2025 - folks want to "play together" - can you please help make that easier?

You're mixing up digital and physical purchases.

What year is it has nothing to do with it. What you are asking is illegal for Valve to do. They can only charge you the price displayed for your country.

Different businesses have different needs. Region hopping is a problem, and price differences between regions means the very obvious abuse is buying cheap games from region A and gifting them to region B.

After all, is there some region where you can buy a PS5 for $200? But you can buy a $60 for $20. The differences matter. You may not care, but that doesn't negate problems Valve has to do with.

In a world where there's no laws governing commerce and you can do anything you want, and no one complains, that would work fine. We don't live on that world though.

This is one of those things where if you can think of a solution that seems real simple and real obvious, that a thousand people have already thought of and suggested. One has to wonder why hasn't Valve done it? Are the lazy? Or clueless? Or are there maybe issues larger and more complex that your immediate wants.

Keep in mind, that you not caring about the details, doesn't negate them for Valve. So you can either huff and puff in ignorance, or you can look into some of the problems. Understanding them might help you understand why sometimes things are inconvenient. You don't have to be happy about it, but understanding can help you live with it and accept existing solutions. Like buy a giftcard for the recipient if you can't buy the game directly.

Your comment does not appear to negate my "suggestion" - which I believe would be beneficial and helpful for every single Steam user.

Have an awesome day!

Then, you would be mistaken.

Yes. I understand that. This is why the US does not manufacture iPhones - they would cost $4000.
I buy t-shirts for $1.75 ea from china - because I could not buy the thread to sew it myself locally for that amount of money.
I have a vague understanding of commerce - again, still does not negate my "suggestion".
Please queue up the remaining defenders of Steam LOL!

Valve is literally not allowed to show you one price for a game and then charge you another. The minutiae of international tax laws matters far more than your nebulous appeal to 'bringing people together.'

Defending against commercial abuse, sure.

It's also why we can't have nice things anymore.

Please excuse my obvious confusion. After I see the purchase price of anything, by the time taxes and shipping and credit card processing fees are applied, plus any import duties - I'm actually charged significantly more than the advertised price on EVERYTHING LOL!

Sales Taxes are not what is being talked about, and you know that. You're just being ridiculous now.

Your narcissistic approach on a "suggestion" you could have walked past - is rather tiring. Don't you have something better to do than troll folks?

None of these words make any sense to what is currently happening.

I'm not entirely certain I could "dumb it down" enough for you?
