Well, if they really wanted to they could just code on a submission attempt to check how old the original & last post is compared to the bump attempt, preventing the new entry and locking it without a mod message.

All someone needs to do is pay attention to the date the last post was made on.
It takes only a second to see and read that.

It's not hard. But, I still think necroing is better left where it is now. Mostly because if necroposting wasn't dealt with in any way. Trolls could just prop up old threads to make a board unusable on current matters.

Well, maybe not unusable but certaintly a pain in the butt to use.

They should simply take the next step and auto-lock old discussions as soon as a thread is older than 1 year.

have seen moderation lock threads barely a month old, which imho isnt old enough to lock threads.

i can see and understand, i guess... their "confusion" template, as people will comment on things, for no reason, or to argue with someones post from a year or more ago, or even people bumping things thinking their issue is relevant to the threads, or bumping them to "thank" a thread for "fixing" their issue.

i have seen some, purposely spam/bump, old (very old) threads in game hubs especially, as well some bumping old threads in the steam forums, especially for some reason, during the night (my time).

this would alleviate moderation work and reports, even prevent abusive reports, to get threads locked, that arent "dead", as i have seen that happen many times, even had support unlock threads due to this.

"Lock threads X days after last post" tends to result in spam X-1 days after the last post in any thread people want to keep open. Moderators can actually understand context and know which threads are old and which aren't. It's not just a random number of days you can pick that decides that.

Yeah, but the moderators seem to close threads regardless of the post being useful or not. They pretty much do it on autopilot with no thoughts or process.

valve/steam moderators understand context? (game hubs are a different beast).

Nah, they should dial down the locking of threads for "necro" posting. It's BS, especially that nonsense about "confusion".

Most do but it has no relation to their posting. There is no rule or requirement to consider that.
