Fixing Pending Balance in Steam
Having to wait up to two days to receive your balance in the store is a huge pain.

In practice, this doesn't guarantee any security and only gets in the way. I've literally been waiting almost two days for 0.30 to be credited to my account from a sale I made in the store where 15% of the value of my item was lost in fees. Look how ridiculous this is, VALVE 🤦‍♂️.

A simpler approach to end this absurd cooldown would be to use secure devices. Each user could link their account to up to two secure devices (1 mobile, 1 desktop/laptop). This way, when making in-game sales, if authorized from these secure devices, the balance would be credited immediately. If the sales were made from another device logged into the account, then the two-day delay would apply.

This makes much more sense than the current model!

Or a better approach is not rely on market sales as a way of income.

I can understand using the market for a bit of monies if you need it (no other way of getting it when you need it)

Like, if you are about to buy a game but are a couple cents or whatever short, I would use the market to get the bit that is needed to buy said game.

Don't refunds take 2 days? (if you make a refund at let's say 10am the first day, you'd get the refund around the same time the next day)

When I tried using the Market to sell some cards, the hold for me is like, 2 weeks or so until I can actually sell it and see the funds (this wasn't how it worked before but now people end up with a lame hold because of other people, the abusers)

Can't you see how long you have left seeing the info in your account under Wallet Balance?

It's not about protecting your account. Your password already does that. It's about Valve not wanting to circulate store credit that they haven't yet gotten the money for.

Well that's trade off. Use your big boy money if you need it right now, or plan ahead and sell some things ahead of time if you might need the cushion from the market.

If you use someone else's system you go by their rules and processes, and that might require you to make adjustments.

Funds being pending are to protect Steam from dirty and fraudulent funds entering the Steam marketplace. Valve now waits until the monetary transaction is committed before finalizing the sale of the item.

That said, never rely on Steam Marketplace revenue to get a timed sale. Instead, use the revenue for something else later.

Because of the financial risk of fraud, this is never going to change, only potentially going to become worse over time as fraudsters seek more ways to launder and steal money unscathed.

Imagine someone buying the item with fraudulent money. The money gets withdrawn from Valve. Now Valve has to take the money away from you, but can't give you the item back because the item could have been resold by that scammer in the meantime to someone innocent who bought it with legitimate funds.

To prevent this from happening, Valve waits until the buyer's bank finalizes the transaction, making it impossible to undo before handing out the item to the buyer and the money to the seller.

This is always triggered if someone buys your item and has recently topped up their wallet balance using a new payment method.
It's for fraud prevention, so there is nothing to change. It's there to protect your account and banks and valve and I don't understand why more people don't realize this.

You can already do that, simply wait the 2 days for the sale to go through then purchase the game, you being impatient won't change that.

I was explaining to the person I was responding to that you could do that lol

And when I used the Market before, I didn't have to wait 2 days or whatever. I got the money as soon as I sold the item.

Now, if I want to sell something, I have to wait 2 weeks or whatever the new hold is, which I won't bother with.

I just put a Steam Summer Sale Trading Card up for sell, look at the hold

NAME
Lurking Summer Sale 2025 Trading Card

Hold Until
July 25th

Price
$0.15
($0.13)

Would be easier sharing a screenshot lol but anyways, see? and that's just for 1 card. Imagine trying to make enough for a dollar.... yeah, no.

All the Weeks/Months I'd have to wait for...
