If you do not opt in and even if your profile is public any game you have in your library remains on your PC and not attached to any cloud streaming service.
NVIDIA GeForce Now runs exactly the same version of the game that you can download from Steam. There's a small contract developers need to sign, basically saying that it's okay for NVIDIA to do this, and then it's literally just a remote desktop program that connects to a virtual computer running the game, with all of the benefits and drawbacks that implies.
I don't have any contact with NVIDIA other than the checkbox that signing the legal agreement makes available.
It's interesting because it's apparently it's not easy for these Devs to get their games on GFN. I think they assume when they check the box, it just goes there.
But i think there's much more involved than just that. I had two developers trying to get their games on there, both unsuccesful.
If their games are on Steam, the steps are
1. sign the legal document saying it's okay
2. check the box
3. wait
The sincere question i have , is what's Step 4? Contracts? Money?
Idk if getting games on GFN as easy as it used to be. But if is, that's good news then.
Nope, no step 4. NVIDIA adds games to GFN manually, but they do it based on that checkbox alone for games on Steam. It took about a month or two between checking the box and GFN announcing that AS:RD is on there.
Right it's true. There are some early access games i've inquired and it was only seemingly a matter of weeks.
Yet others came to me and said they keep inquiring but it never shows up. Idk, i would have thought if you're putting your game on an altogether different platform, particularly Nvidia, they're gonna want a contract and money.
But if not, developers should really look into it, being at least in my experience have a blast on GFN.
You've seen the documentation... https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/features/cloudgaming
I have. But my point is not as easy as that to get your game on GFN for whatever reason.
New games come on every Thursday. Some Thursdays you can get ten or more games at a pop. Other times, as little as two games.
And so i wouldn't think it's a matter of a massive list, or we would see 10 or more games every Thurs.
And, i would think in so that people don't buy games to play it on GFN for they to disappear after a month being the Dev may want to back out, there must be some contractual obligation that Devs may not want to partake.
I'll divert to Mr Lubar however.
Nvidia also has a dev portal... https://developer.geforcenow.com/
