They skirt the margin between what is useful to you as a customer and what is useful to them as a vendor, hence you will find these stilted mixture of goals exhibit in every facet of life _and it sucks immensely_.
BUT there is good news, friend, there is a Steam API and you can suck down all their data then scrape the rest, use other sources of data and create a site that will actually give you unbiased readings of the data, consistently.
I got halfway through this project then just gave up and went back to using Steams slurry interface. Mmmm i sure love slurry now :(
