About visa and master card situation - possible solution
Dear Steam/Valve Team,
As you all know there are some games in steam that are in black Visa and Master-card list and those game will be removed - which will cause lost in profit for steam
As a human being for whom freedom of speech and expression is not an empty word and who understand necessity of standing together in difficult situation, I have several proposes:

1. Make Steam Nft tokens - 1 token = 1 USD(for expamle) or 0,1 USD - this is optional currency for users with which they exchange for emotion, trading carts and if user is a developer with registered page - games as a gift.
Developers who help active games in steam can trade(OR USE NEW RETURN POLICY) with steam NFT token back to valve for 1 token = 1 USD (or ask you bussiness team)

So the main idea is - user use its Visa or Mastercard to by in-game -I am sorry - in-platform item - and Visa and Master card will see it. What user will do with those item Visa and MasterCard didnt need to know

2. It could be not nft but some other in-platform items, that could be bought by steam bots from developers

Main idea - customer buy an item not the game, use give item to developer, developer give game for and item, developer could turn this item to money on their account buy REFUNDING it or by trade

Please make note this will optional payment method not the main , basically there will be two payment methods from now on

Any payment method that is dependent in its obtainability or exchangability to another payment method will make ideas such as this one obsolete because credit card companies will still be part of this dependency chain and will pressure the lower level of the dependency chain to cease and desist, be it Valve directly, any retail store or exchange hub, both virtual and real.

They will be , but what they can do?
You bought token\currency, you sold token\currency - token isnt 18+ object - no restrictions here

token is bought using visa/mc
visa/mc learns that token is used to buy adult content
visa/mc tells token booths and Valve to cease and desist.

How will they know?
Okay one way to know is that company that made 18+ game made profit from steam - that could be a problem unless they made not only 18+ game - ok sfw version maybe not cofortable for all developers, but you can gift this token for developer without 18+ content - and this developer will transfer money

That the game is offered on Steam alone is enough to enforce a CnD. No matter the payment method.

Also, tokens and similar virtual currency can be in violation of tax laws in various countries.

Dark times we live in... well if by just having such content on the platform leads to economical isolation that sucks...
go go digital Fahrenheit 451 !

Well try to keep in mind Valve has rules for it's service that developers and publishers are subject to, games have been delisted from Steam for years for violating rules. Reality is it's not so much different if payment processors have terms that they enforce too.

I know customers would love it if their rights superseded all other rights all the time, but that's not very realistic either. It's understandable if you think there's room to debate whose rights ought to prevail in this situation that's understandable. But co-existing with others sometimes means compromise. And the thing with compromises is you don't always get your own way.

And not every compromise you don't like is an endless downward spiral where this time next year the only games allowed to be purchases are Tetris clones, because making arguments against blocks is the point everyone can agree is silly.

It's not a solution. The problem for MC/Visa is that certain types of games are available on Steam, not how you pay for it. So adding hoops to jump through isn't doing anything in that regard.

And Steam cannot cut off MC/Visa cause that would mean cutting of quite a large group of their customers. And while some of those customers might jump through hoops like you suggested to use Steam, most will not.

Well, when you write it like that, it certainly seems silly. But that is because you wrote it that way. The actual end state of this sort of thing will be the same as it always is when corporations exercise arbitrary power: certain demographics will continue to be favored by the corporations and others will continue to be disfavored.

There is a reason I keep reminding people there is no basis for allowing furry or beastiality but disallowing incest.

As we often see, people like to misdirect from the actual end state to tangents about tetris blocks because there are few morr zealous defenders of corporations than the groups favored by them.

The entire point of what Visa/Mastercard did was that if Steam didn't remove those items they weren't going to allow them to use Visa/Mastercard at all.

So your idea wouldn't work

Basically this, adding another payment method won't work as the entire issue was they had to remove those items or lose access to the payment processor which is used by the majority of people

I've said in a different thread that Valve themselves at best could do something akin Paypal, Google Pay or Apple Pay. Which does nothing in the grand scheme.

Peeple who suggest that Valve makes their own payment method absolutely have no idea what MC/Visa are.

And I am grateful for explanation. I might be not brightest one , but its clearly that those guys try to play monopoly and authoritarian thing. So maybe something will born out of brainstorm. Some guy with enough knowledge finally figure out something or even fact of existence of such discussions will play the role
Anyway I tried, I get reasonable response - I will continue to think

Yep, the issue is that even if Valve made their own way to pay to circumvent them, the majority of people wouldn't use it. Which is the entirety of the issue

1. Make Steam Nft tokens
They already hate nft things, that seems rather counter to that decision.
Steam Wallet is already a thing; money to in-store credit applied to the specific account.

The games removed and other identical game types would be more advised to sell on an adult site that accepts any payment method willing to be associated with such activity.
