When navigating back from a selected game on the main Steam store page, it should return you to the same tab you were viewing before.
It has been bugging me for years that when browsing categories like "Popular Upcoming," "Specials," or any other tab, and then selecting a game to view its details, returning to the main page always takes you back to the "New & Trending" tab, regardless of where you started. For example if I want to check few popular upcoming games I have to switch tab every time I go back from selected game.

Control+click or middle mouse click the game in question to open a new window. This keeps you where you are on the main window.

Also works well in your Wishlist.

Ye that's one solution to a problem. Maybe it's just me and everyone else thinks that current way is the right one.

It seems the page isn't setup for the browser to remember things like that.
