Hmm in general I like the idea but I’m sure the one month thing might have some wiggle room on a forum to forum basis.

Valve please make this happen. Tired of having open threads chain yanked closed due to someone spamming on all old posts.
Lock if its old so they can't be revived and save yourself from work. But also don't punish people for not searching if the previous threads on the subject are locked.

I'd be in favor of autolock with the option for the OP to override this behavior (set a custom timeframe, but not less than 30 days) and even having a permanently open option. If "permanently open" is toggled, old threads shouldn't be locked by moderators for being old unless recent participation behavior warrants it.

Or maybe uh after a certain period of activity, the thread doesn’t get bumped by new comments.

This is on the basis that I think people are doing the Necro posting to intentionally bump old posts and so if it didn’t actually bump them, they wouldn’t do it as often.

I've always been in favor of autolock. Usually two to three months is deemed acceptable. And it should be an insta-7 day ban for anyone who bumps a thread to prevent the autolock from occurring. Make it an insta-30 day ban if the person is the OP, or one of their alts.
