Most companies like PayPal and Stripe are apart of the censorship. Visa & MasterCard are the one's who have the money and companies like PayPal & Stripe are the people who move money between you and Visa & MasterCard. Cards like Discover aren't associated with them at all and are the one's who you'd want as checkout options

The dozens of these threads have the same flaw;
Valve risks losing these payment processors if the content is on their store if the payment processors brand is used with their store.
pretty sure most of those will still go through visa/mastercard for CC and DC transactions as most banks only issue visa or mastercard debit and credit cards

This must be stopped with Government legislation, I agree, but I still despise Steam for not at least trying to fight back against this. 1067 jackasses in Australia now control Steam content, and what it can and cannot sell.

The point people are missing is that if Valve had tried to fight back against it, they risked losing their entire business over a few games that hardly anyone knows about or plays.

If you were in their position, you'd have done the same thing.

No, that group in Australia doesn't control anything, because they aren't the ones making the rules.

Jesus is not the Church of America so he doesn't condone rape, incest and pedophilia.

Any payment method that is dependent in its obtainability or exchangability to another payment method will make ideas such as this one obsolete because credit card companies will still be part of this dependency chain and will pressure the lower level of the dependency chain to cease and desist, be it Valve directly, any retail store or exchange hub, any other payment method that uses credit cards, both virtual and real.

The issue is not how Steam gets the money for the questionable content, but the fact that Steam gets money for the questionable content. Offering certain games on Steam alone is enough to enforce a cease and desist, no matter the payment method; Neither Visa nor Mastercard want to be held liable for the sale of (potentially) questionable content.

You do realize what you're advocating the government to force on payment processors right? The exact type of material this would force them to be associated with despite not wanting association with that kind of material?

Not necessarily, you could argue it's a violation of our freedom of speech

Freedom of speech only applies to censorship by the government. People really need to learn what they’re actually talking about.

Sorry I don't really look at political stuff. I didn't know it was only for the government
