Suggestion: An alternative way to spend Steam Points
I would really love to see a system where Steam points could be used not just for profile customization, but also to access demos or early previews of certain games.

In this system, specific games could be selected through a collaboration between developers and Steam, allowing players to spend points to try out a level or a promotional mission. The point cost would vary depending on the game’s price and quality — meaning AAA titles would require more points.

This feature would give players a chance to experience a game in its actual form before buying, and it could also help developers study player behavior more effectively. :)

Not interested in giving points any kind of value.

There is enough baiting going on as it is. No need to put that on overdrive.

the main purpose isn’t profit, it’s about showcasing themselves and their games to the Steam community.

The points have no value because they aren't sold separately but given to you as a bonus. Therefore, Valve would lose money if they made it so those points could be attached value out of thin air.

Steam points aren't legal tender anywhere. You cannot pay the rent for a warm home nor pay for food on the table with them.

Loyalty point systems are used to keep customers and build a strong customer base. Valve is already going very strong. They don't need to fork over money to keep customers loyal to them.

In other words developers wouldn't get paid.

Developers choice as to whether they offer a demo, early preview, alpha access, beta access. As for Steam points they are not a real currency so there is no benefit to the developer.

I have alpha then beta access to Warhammer 40,000 Dark Heresy because i paid the developer for the game upfront.

I'm still unclear how the steam points work on the devs end. Like why do the devs care how much things cost if they don't get any money for them?

Like this one is 10,000 steam points:
https://steamhost.cn/points/shop/c/profilebundles/reward/338541

how does having one this high price help the game in any way shape or form? If they want users to have it on their profile, wouldn't they want it cheap so more users could buy it?

Exposure doesn't pay the mortgage.

Now that is a good question. What do the devs get, if anything, when you buy something from the point shop for their game?
I don't like this system.

It lets the people with more money demo games whilst the ones who would benefit from the demo more (people with less money) miss out and have to buy the whole thing to try it.

No devs are going to do this as steam points don't pay the devs bills.
