Either Ban MAC Address OR Whitelist MAC Address So I Can Use My VPN
I wish to use my VPN to protect my IP not just in games but also through the steam community
we all know old school phishing attempts and while losing your account could be bad. BUT giving up your IP address could be even worse.I do realize bad actors use VPNs to overload steams servers however most people just want to browse anonymously and safely I don't know how the community has let this slide this long given how vast and outspoken the community is. Now after contacting steam support and them telling me they don't support VPNs and I should remove the VPN from my PC so it doesn't effect my transactions which why is steam trying to verify or look at my IP address anyway I have no idea why and do not want steam to log my IP at all as all people with an ounce of technical info should agree with. To conclude and to give an idea so I don't just complain without any real substance or ideas use a MAC address either ban or A MAC address whitelist for VPNs so we can all browse safely without worry of any terrible things that not using a VPN can lead to we all know what these things are but I've chosen to leave the keywords out for fear of anyone getting ideas to commit bad actions, have a good night.

TLDR: steam bans the use of VPNs for the steam community, unban VPN IP's and either ban MAC addresses or make a MAC address whitelist for VPNs so regular users don't have to fear any personal information being leaked... Valve consists of the greatest computer science minds on the planet but can't even keep you safe or don't care to...

EDIT: I maybe I came in a little hot and tbh I don't know how any of these things work just the buzzwords and that they can be used to identify you. I understand I can make my own VPN and avoid all this but lets not forget we are consumers and I don't have a computer science degree to know all these things. I understand you guys are knowledgeable but this impacts the normie user not people with long standing tech knowledge to be honest my bios boot menu is a little more than I need to be messing with. but regardless even valve says you should always run a VPN while gaming and that it is the way to protect yourself while simultaneously blocking mine and steam support was less than helpful in conclusion help normies stay safe or at least have the facade of privacy online and lets not forget every website and game server logs your IP so even if you do everything right you still lose. But I have been informed some of my misconceptions of IP addresses but we don't all live in big cities and maybe my IP is something I would like to protect even if not necessary let's not normalize giving up any of your information.

So I am writing this on Steam without the use of a VPN. Can you tell me what my IP address is?

No Sir But if I sent you a fake steam community link and you clicked it I would, wouldn't you agree?

Good amount of VPNs collect more data of what you're doing than your ISP does.

Clicking on any unsolicited links are bad, VPN or no. Are you in the habit of clicking on links people send you?

what about a trade offer link for example that no one thinks twice about maybe you aren't in the item trading world but this is a much bigger problem than you think it is I promise they don't even need you to log in just to be on the site

yea but they don't swat or dox people
You'd be surprised what they share and with whom. Should really read the fine print very, very slowly. Almost no VPNs have any form of true anonymity. If you're worried about dox/swat etc; have clean browsing habits and don't try to be a content creator on sites with little to no security.

Here is a solution. Do not click links from random people on the internet.
I use a VPN on Steam all the time. What parts of Community are they banning? I haven't experienced this.

well why won't steam let me obfuscate my IP and protect myself to the best of my abilities isn't that the question we should be asking?

not that steam should let me obfuscate my IP to the best of my abilities its my fault when steam won't let me protect myself?
I don't use VPN, have never used VPN. Never had any issues in all the years I've been on the internet. Common sense is a very powerful tool.

you should use a VPN that way every game server and website owners don't have your IP which if you don't know basically equals your IRL home address and name but I bet you only play dedicated Developer owned servers be cause your common sense is so strong

I play on old goldsrc games commonly, even back when AMXX server plugins had access to player's optical drives (and much else) when desktops used to have those, and DOS attacks were far more common. Turned out just fine.
