Simple Friend Request Authentication
It would be great if there was a second level check in order to send someone a friend request - such as a random code or something that someone who sends you a friend request needs to have in order for the request to even go out. For years now I've been bombarded by random accounts, whom I assume are bots or scammers, who just inundate me with friend requests. This simple feature would probably kill that whole industry overnight as their ability to scam would then be limited to the people who they were able to properly friend request authenticate.

To better explain what I'm suggesting in case it isn't clear in my intro paragraph. Here is an example of how the new process would be if something akin to my request is implemented:

Say I want to send you a friend request on steam, I would need to,
1) send you a friend request, and then
2) input say a friend code that you must provide to me,
3) receiving user (you), will then receive the typical friend request prompt.

Each of 1 and 2 must now happen before the friend request is actually sent out (vs. the current process which only requires step 1 and is easily abused... and is)

Implementing a feature such as this would hardly impact good actors.
I feel these spam friend request are starting to get a little out of hand (multiple a week). Hope everyone has a great day.

I've been on here for nearly 22 years and hardly ever get random friend requests. If I do get a request, it's from someone I've had a previous interaction with.

It seems that there are two main culprits that can lead random friend requests.

1. Having lots of sought after, tradable stuff in your inventory
2. Being in particular groups that are commonly frequented by shady people

Pretty sure the 2nd one doesn't apply to you, but the first one almost certainly does.

PUBG, Dota 2 and CS2 inventory.

If you have sellable/tradable items, scammers are going to try and friend you so they can try and either trick you out of your items or even try and trick you into give them access to your account.

Makes no sense, you often can't do #2 and actually communicate with someone else until you are already friends. All that would do is lead to spam of people posting on your profile or contacting you asking for the code.
