The positioning of the ratings board stuff is usually between the steam deck compatibility and achievements in the side bar.

Yep, ESRB rating clearly visible on that page. Always has been.
The thing is, getting an ESRB or PEGI rating costs a lot of money and generally isn't worth it unless legally required.
In fact I would like a function in my game list which would allow me to class my games automatically with PEGI rating or even the content like drugs or nudity.
I hope it will be a bit clearer and less useless and redundant.

It'll encourage developers to get their games rated for ESRB/PEGI/Ect. Also once you get your game rated by this IARC system it applies to all other stores that also use the IARC system.
Epic Games Store uses IARC, and as a result vast majority of games being released to EGS have an age rating from ESRB/PEGI/ect. Same games on EGS that are on Steam tend to have this rating on EGS but doesn't have the rating on Steam.
Also with ESRB/PEGI/Ect rating it comes with the extra descriptor to tell you why it got the rating it got, for example a game gets Teen Rated with the descriptors of "Blood, Violence" or another game gets a Teen rating with descriptors of "sexual themes"
