Not that your idea doesn't have merit, but I'm a little confused on your reasoning.
The world does not exist in a stasis when you aren't actively there.
It currently does show in the wishlists and on store page. You can also subscribe to a email newsletter from steam for sales reminder or your games in wishlist on sale.
This suggestion is moot as the figure is already there.
I am glad to see people here come around to the idea that Valve should forego FOMO advertising even if it costs them sales to do so. As is usual, my opinions are usually the board's just a few months in advance.

That change was fairly recent and has resulted in a situation where this display would be a value add.
