8BitDo Ultimate 2 BT Switch format support
At current, it seems that even with the beta firmware for the dongle the switch format version of the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 BT controller isn't supported on Steam input unlike it's xbox counterpart. It would be really great if we could get proper support for the few of us that have this variant of the controller. Mapping the plus, minus, and stick clicks to the extra buttons through it's own firmware/8bitdo's software is ok, but full control of the extra inputs for keyboard buttons and Steam input functions through Steam itself would be a big boon.

Is this not applicable?

https://www.8bitdo.com/steam/

Compatibility:

Please put the controller on D-input/Bluetooth mode to pair with Steam®.

Note: I have an 8Bitdo wired Pro 2 and the default profile is for Xbox. I can set and edit another profile to map the buttons to Nintendo using the 8Bitdo Ultimate software.

Unfortunately not what I'm looking for. Steam does "support" the bluetooth "switch" layout version of the controller as a default xbox 360 controller or switch pro depending on how you connect it, but the extra buttons I'd like to map to other functions don't show in steaminput no matter how I connect the controller to my PC. I.E. the back paddles and extra bumpers are forced to be mapped to buttons already on the controller and cannot be blank to be used as extra functions (like showing the onscreen keyboard for example).

Have you tried using the 8Bitdo Ultimate software which uses profiles and disabling Steam Input?

I personally do not use Steam Input for any game with my 8Bitdo wired Pro 2 and if i switch to my PS5 Dualsense i use DS4Windows, the Ryochan version.

I have, as stated in my original post, used the 8bitdo software. It doesn't support mapping the buttons to keyboard keys or anything outside of what is physically on the controller, and as such does not suit my desires. I don't need duplicates of other physical buttons, I would like to use them for more functionality. Specifically: I'd like to use them within the confines of steam input for things like toggling gyro or pulling up steam's on screen keyboard. This is possible to do on mappings for other physical buttons, but that interferes with other basic inputs. The access to the extra buttons would free up space for better more natural configurations.

The extra buttons specific to the 8bitdo ultimate 2 controller, on the switch layout version, IE the face buttons are Nintendo style rather than the Xbox style, are not available to be mapped within steam input. The buttons in question are the back paddles and extra bumpers. The Xbox layout version of the same controller is supported by steam while it seems the switch/Nintendo layout version is not. I would like it to be. I don't know how much clearer I can make that. Assuming I have not checked settings and instructions when my previous posts have indicated I've gone so far as to use beta firmware for the dongle is absurd. Secondly, the repeated reference to dual shock and dual sense controllers is useless as neither are the controller I'm using, and therefore I am not asking support for those. If I was using those I wouldn't have posted a thread about the 8bitdo.

You did but i also asked if you used it with Steam input disabled in the same sentence.

Thank you however for the explanation regarding the limitations of using the 8BitDo software for your personal requirements of it.

Repeated references to dualshock and dualsense controllers?

I made a single reference to my PS5 Dualsense controller.

And i did so in reference to not using Steam Input at all as i also mentioned not using it for my 8Bitdo Pro 2 controller.

You replied once and deleted it, I was responding to it as it was removed. I will grant maybe it had been posted in error, but it did mention the dualshock 3, as well as the suggestion to check instructions and settings specifically. Not using steam input goes against my entire feature suggestion and is technically a pointless thing to recommend. Using features of steam input is the thing I'd like to do, so suggesting not using it at all is somewhat puzzling as advice. It should be noted we're in the suggestions for steam forum, and not the help/tips section.

youll have to ise the 8bitdo software to map those. You can download their software on their website

There was no post deletion. I do not have a dualshock 3 and why my only post reads:

Unfortunately I'd like to map them to something other than the buttons on the controller which isn't possible through their software (thus the suggestion here for proper support)

I should've screenshot the post on mobile (where I responded last night while agitated). I swear to whatever we mutually agree on (not one for the graves or gods or whatever) that that post did exist. Maybe it was another user that showed incorrectly because the post was gone by the time I got to the notification, but I swear it was there. Not that it matters much now but I digress.

Apologies for incorrect formatting I don't know how it works on the valve/steam forums

i dont think tgats possible. Youre better off emailing 8bitdo support and asking them to change their software, idk why they havent yet tbh

That's... why I posted the suggestion in the suggestion thread for steam supporting it (as they do the other version of the controller) I mean it should be obvious that that's the reason for a SUGGESTION in a SUGGESTION thread I'm not asking for help I'm asking for added functionality on Valve's end.
