Valve patched the exploit to use 3 of the same showcase earlier this year, it could mean they are planning on offering more or not.
The fact the 3rd showcase is still there through API is a good sign though yeah.
Discarding the possibility of a huge update around profiles or the point shop soon, as it's not in the steam lab page, I hope we can see something appear in a small update still, with new coherent limits...
Maximum diplayable showcases per profile probably should stay in the range of the 40-50, and your personal cap, at which multiple of ten your level is.
Numbers of multiple same showcases should be varying between showcase types. There are already 3 unique showcases that can be displayed once (Rarest Achievements, Awards and the kinda obsolete Salien Sales). This last one could really see an update aswell, winter/summer sales badges related and you select which year, for example.
Lots of showcases could be diplayed 50 time without being problematic (Achievements, Games, 100% Games, Badges, Favorite Game, Favorite Group and I guess Steam Retrospectives and Items)
Having a limit of 2 or 3 on all those is kind of a feel bad as they showcase "pure steam" content, it doesn't seems there's good reason you can't go crazy on them if it's that's what you wish. A limit of 10 or even 20 doesn't seem very unreasonable. But maybe it would be best to harmonize limitation with other "problematic" showcases.
The ones that allows to insert heavier or bigger content, or need a steam verification for example, should need stretchier limitations to dodge some nonsense, probably :
Artwork, Screenshot, Workshop, Videos and probably Infobox, Tradeable Items and Game Reviews aswell.
8 maximum of everything. would be fantastic with a total max of 50, but I guess giving the current situation already asking 6 of each, the double, would help lots of profile design to emerge.
There are many good reasons to update this, and the main thing that could push Steam to do it is if the community asks for it, so thanks for creating this post. It present no difficulty of implementation, it's our job to make it happen
