Option for normal alphabetical order in Steam Client
Please add an user option to configure the Steam Client to not ignore the words "the", "a" and "an" when sorting the library list. I think the current order is unnatural and extremely confusing, especially for non-native English speakers.

For every user that suggests that there's other who suggests against.

Thing is those articles are usually ignored when alphabetically sorting in libraries and bookstores. IE: You'll find The Neverending Story at the N at the library.

Also accounting for articles creates overrepresentation. You end up having to alphabetically subsearch within a huge list of titles all starting with 'The'

You misunderstood me, what I am suggesting is adding an option so that each user can make their preferred choice, not forcing you to use my preference.

I wouldn't mind the option to have "The Neverending Story" or "Neverending Story, The."

:nkCool:

I wouldn't mind either.

Options are fine to add, sure.

Really? As a non-native English speaker I find including "a", "the" and the like while sorting to be unnatural.

Good for you. I just suggest adding an option to preferences to satisfy both.

Technically, the "normal way" is without the preceding articles.

Yes please! It is really annoying to go back and forth between Steam and a file manager and having to scroll like crazy because Steam uses this idiotic sorting system that can't be turned off.

Also, it's disrespectful to the developers. If the game's title starts with "The" or "A", the developer made a deliberate decision for that to be the case. How would Valve like it if Half Life were put under L because the world "Half" was ignored?

I'm all for options but this is just the standard way of sorting things like that.

@Roxor128
This is one of the reason why I call it the unnatural way. Nevetheless, I don't want force others to think like me, I just want the addition of a simple option to fit preferences of people like you and me.

Hence why I said "Options are fine to add, sure".

The reason I find it unnatural to add it into sorting, mind, is because in my own language such things also don't get sorted.
I seriously would not want every game starting with "The" in the T category. Way too messy. The Witcher belongs in the W.

I remember using the system that Steam currently uses only for library catalog cards. Not even old telephone directories used it, at least in this part of the world, so I find it very complicated. Please implement the option.

Catalogs as Playnite for example lets you define an ordering name in addition to the normal displaying name. This works, but seems to be a more complicated solution to satisfy both kinds of users. A simple tick in preferences would be Ok.

yep, I would prefer if this was an option. I personally prefer using a pure alphabet instead of ignoring "a", "an" / "the" word articles.

some users may prefer otherwise, that's fine. make it an option. please.

Old suggestion but still +1
