Not really. In 2009, the average hard drive was $0.07 dollars/GB. Doing the math for the peak Steam users, it costs $315,000 for Valve to increase everyones storage space from 1GB to 2GB.

I suppose, but with the growing intrest in steam that number could change quickly.

You're forgetting that they don't have to buy 2GB to "give" us 2GB. No everybody uses the whole GB they already "give" us, and of course even less people will use the proposed 2. So they could just have the used space and some reserve (50% of used space), and just buy when the empty space is running low.

So, they don't really need to buy double of space just now, because it won't be used.

They don't have your space limited in a hard drive just for you, they just have Hard Drives where they store data. Having a 20% of the "promised" space to all users is enough, as not all the users would need all the space at once.

I still have roughly 90% free on my cloud storage. People seem to forget that the screenshot uploading feature was only meant to be for rare gaming moments you think are worth sharing. Not posting a new screenshot of everything that happens in a game.

This thread is so old, Valve had since increased it to roughly 20GB for non-limited accounts ages ago.
