8bitdo Pro II controller
Is there any way to use the trigger buttons on the bottom as L1 and R1 in Steam?

You have the Wired or Wireless version?
Overall, did you try the software?

Wireless. I did not know that software exists.

Yes it allows you to easily rearrange the buttons, set a range for the triggers and even assign macros if you need then.

Available via Windows Store App. Or you can connect the controller to an Android or Apple iOS Phone or Tablet via BT and use the app on there from Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

One more thing to add. You can add different profiles. The button in between the sticks will change the profile. So if you have L1 and R1 assigned to the back buttons for profile 1, be sure to switch to switch to profile 1.

That's how I use it.

The only downside in that mode is no gyro. If you want gyro, you'll need to change it to Switch mode. But Switch mode lacks analog triggers. It's frustrating how neither mode takes full advantage of what the controller can do.

I don't care about gyro. Thanks for your concern.

Gyro I never saw a use for anyways. Not exactly easy to get used to.
As an update for anyone watching the thread. After seeing reading through the ultimate 2 support thread, and seeing beta firmwares and steaminput offering some, admitedly still buggy, support, I decided to try out my pro 2 on direct input (d position on the switch). It just works, gyro back buttons etc. fully customisable no rumble bug like the ultimate 2 rn. So that's really nice.
This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
