Only Steam games lag
Hello,

I’m experiencing a problem where every game I launch through Steam has severe lag and stuttering (with spikes) (like its in slowmotion + the audio of the game itself 2). Task Manager shows no high CPU, RAM, or disk usage during the lag—everything looks normal. It doesn’t matter the size of the game; even small games like for example. Peak (~1.5 GB) have these spikes. This issue only happens with Steam games – other games such as Minecraft, Roblox, ... dont have this problem.

What I’ve already tried:
- Fully removed and reinstalled GPU drivers (using DDU in Safe Mode).
- Clean installation of both Intel and NVIDIA drivers.
- Disabled the Steam Overlay.
- Adjusted NVIDIA settings (Power Management, Low Latency Mode, PhysX set to GPU).
- Disabled unnecessary NVIDIA services.
- Updated both Windows and Steam to the latest version.

Unfortunately, the problem still remains, but only inside Steam. Also, if this problem occurs, I usually just restart my laptop and then the problem will mostly not occur for the rest of my gaming time. Another thing is that this "lag" is very random and can sometimes not show up.

Could you please help me resolve this issue?

My specs are (Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3):

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz, 2592 MHz, 6 core('s), 16GB RAM (single channel), Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 Ti 4GB

Here is also the link to my reddit where you can see the video: https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLaptops/comments/1mqxt2o/comment/n8uv48l/ (I don't know how to upload a video in Steam Community since its my first time)

Updated Windows.... the worst thing you can do...
change operating system and take flight.

Nvidia wants to stop supporting the 1000 series and earlier, this could also be the problem, in addition to 4g ram.

Turn off all video setting in steam. Like screenshots and video recording

Have you tried reinstalling windows? Also I don't mean no offense but a lot of people are unaware that "H" suffix CPUs are generally worse and paired with worse ram. Additionally lenovo should be avoided.

as i said: i am interested in a solution? problem: MY sys works.
thank you.

I see two possible problems:

- There is some driver issues and steam video recording is causing performance problems.

- downloading games while playing can cause massive performance drop.
can you see if or when the problem may be solved??? please...answer me.

its a laptop with the dedicated 1650 gpu

could just be old battery that cant output the power it used to
or playing while not plugged in

those will cause the cpu/gpu to throttle to stay in the lower power profile

set the games and steam to use the dedicated gpu
and make sure its plugged in and fully charged while gaming for best performance

also get a laptop cooler to help keep it cool and prevent thermal throttling
