How does running exes through steam on linux work?
I'm going to switch my laptop to linux and want to know if running steam games through steam works like I hope it does. I imagine that it's just adding the exe as a non steam game then running it, am I correct?

I couldn't find anything about it online, sorry if it's a dumb question.

Yes that is how it works. However you may want to use Lutris or Bottles instead. Lutris has the highest compatibility.

I just want something which I don't have to write arguments for. Last time I tried running exes I believe I used lutris but they wouldn't run, it could've been an issue with the exes though.
Launching games that do not have a native linux binary from steam directly will use valves proton fork of WINE.

That's gonna work for most titles. There are ways to customize this, including installing third party forks like that glorious eggroll one and using that. The steam client will allow you to set those options when you right click any game in your library via the steam client and choosing properties.
Lutris needs a Wine build installed. Use Proton Plus to install GE-Proton 9-27.
