If there's hard drive problems, do an emergency backup to another device right away, then look at the SMART telemetry and run chkdsk /r, or chkdsk /f if it's SSD.

use
chkdsk /x /f /r (drive letter:)

will unmount, then fix, then mount again when done
then nothing can be read/write or interrupt chkdsk

Where would I apply that? Console or somewhere on Steam? (Apologies for sounding retarded)

from cmd or run prompt as admin
winkey+r

So, like "chkdsk /x /f /r (drive letter:D)" then put it in?
/r implies /f, so you don't need to use them both, but again, /r isn't good for SSDs.

An SSD's firmware continuously monitors the health of individual sectors, so /r isn't really necessary. If it's an SSD, you should just need chkdsk /f and the manufacturer's SMART tools.
