Steam Controller Not Being Detected
Friend gave me their steam controller they haven't used in years but it's not being detected by the PC even plugged through USB.

It turns on when plugged it but nothing else, no buttons respond, nothing from windows etc.

All info I find out comes from before Steam's recent UI change as well.

make sure you are using a charge+data cable, not charge only

Hmm, I'll have to check. I will add though that I have the dongle and even then it doesn't detect it.

The dongle is detected by windows , though as "steam controller" so don't know if that might cause any issues or if that is how it works normally.

First time using a Steam Controller.
It has to be inside these Steam Client settings ~or~ in BPM (Big Picture Mode) controller settings.

I seen some other people talking about this a few months ago, or something similar, about the Steam Controller but I do not own one myself so I cannot be :100percent: sure.

But try this:

Device Manager < View < Hidden Devices (if the controller is not listed) and check to see what it says and such (mainly to check if that controller has faults).

This may also relate if you have that "Xbox Extended Feature Support Driver" installed which could cause issues with a Steam Controller. :badluck:

thanks Phénomènes Mystiques!!!!

I showed hidden devices and saw one listed as "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)"

Removed it, turned on the controller with batteries in and instantly worked!

I am very glad to hear about this positive outcome, Captain Kameh.

Thank you as well, I finally found a old device to test the cable to see if it transfers data and it seems to be only good for power. Explains it being a foot or so long.
