8bitdo Ultimate 2 Gyro support?
Hey I'm wondering if the Ultimate 2 will be able to have full gyro function with steam without having to use some switch mode or something like my Pro 2 does.

Will steam ever add full controller support for 8bitdo products seeing as how it's becoming increasingly popular and mimicking other controllers is rather lame as it just handicaps players.

I miss my steam controller but sadly steam decided to stop making it. I want a controller that I can use full gyro and analog trigger capabilities.

I also like the tech put into Ultimate 2 as it has TMR Joysticks and the Pro 2 only has the Hall Effect stick upgrade.

If 8bitdo isn't my answer for this then what controller would be my answer? TMR Technology with full gyro and hall effect triggers. I'm rather tired of the crippling options PC players has when it comes to controllers. Not everyone wants to have to always sit at the desk to game.

Thanks for taking the time to read!

Most games on PC don't support the Gyro though anyways

until ms/xbox adds gyro support to their controllers

if steam sees it as a ps/switch controller, you can map gyro using steam input as needed for each game

If you want gyro and analog triggers, I would recommend the DualSense. It has ALPS sticks which are actually the best for aiming. The downside is they're likely to wear out quicker than the TMR joysticks.

I have the Ultimate 2 and gyro works by emulating the joystick. But you don't have access to gyro in Steam Input, so it's not as good. Supposedly you can buy an adapter 2 and ask 8bitdo for beta drivers to give you an option for Switch support.

Is there any way to get steam to see it as a Dualsense? I also wanted the new Pro 2 with hall effects, I have 2x pro 2 controllers but not hall version, however I want the new TMR technology. Are there any 3rd party apps to make this function reality? I hate that pc controllers have to mimic console controllers.
No most controllers are seen as an "Xbox" controller

8bitDo Ultimate and Ultimate 2 should be able to function as a Switch controller in Steam just disable the Sony and Xbox options and enable the Seitch option, then restart Steam Client once changed

Also found software to trick the pc into thinking it's a dualsense. I read dualsense has gyro support. My concern with switch mode is it disables the analog function on the triggers so I can use soft press and hard press functions. I like to activate gyro with soft press and hard press fires.
I miss the steam controller. Wish they'd make a new steam controller with TMR and hall tech. Another question, does the Ultimate 2 use switch through the 2.4 dongle that comes with it?

I'm looking to buy a new controller because my pro 2s use analog joysticks. So I was considering ultimate 2 for the tmr tech and gyro. I may grab a Ps5 controller but it doesn't have the new technology and it's polling isn't as good as ultimate 2.

The Ultimate 2 comes with a dongle. You can select whether you want to connect to the 2.4G dongle or with Bluetooth.

If you connect to the dongle, it will behave like an xbox controller with analog triggers. You can set up L4, R4, L5, and R5 to mimic other buttons in 8bitdo software, but they won't show up as unique commands in Steam Input. Gyro can be enabled in 8bitdo software, but it only emulates the stick. Gyro does NOT show up in Steam Input.

If you connect via Bluetooth, the triggers will NOT be analog. However, it is possible to have L4, R4, L5, and R5 to show up in Steam Input if you edit the config.vdf file.

Gyro is the same as before. Only works with 8bitdo software. Doesn't show up in Steam Input.

What software are you referring to? 8bitDo doesn't have any such thing.

So there have been some changes since April. Valve is planning on official support for the Ultimate 2 Wireless, but it's not out yet.

If you download the 8BitDo Ultimate Software V2 and click on settings, you can check Get Beta Firmware. After you update the controller to the beta firmware, and switch to Bluetooth mode, Steam Input will recognize the additional buttons.

If you have another controller with gyro, you could set that up in Steam Input and save the layout. You can then import that config and apply it to the Ultimate 2 controller. You won't be able to make changes to the gyro because it's not visible in the UI yet. But once it gets full support you will be able to.

Don't know where they heard about it first but they just added support for it in the June 9 beta steam client update which is pretty cool!

4 extra buttons and gyro work when you connect via Bluetooth.

If you're connecting to the dongle, hold B button + guide button to turn on the controller in Dinput mode. Then extra buttons and gyro will work.
