Turn off Xbox Series X controller in Big Picture
Hi! I've been experiencing an issue with an Xbox Series X controller (I run windows 10 and 11) when no matter what button chord I press the controller won't turn off. I tried using it with an xbox wireless adapter and with a regular Bluetooth connection.

Also I have a feature enabled that should turn off my controller when I leave Big Picture but it doesn't work as well.

I've found some old posts on steam forums (approx. 2018) stating that Steam doesn't support turning off xbox controllers but more fresh posts say that it now works. And I also know that I can hold the Xbox button for 10 secs to turn it off but that's bad ux.

Can somebody confirm that they run a windows system and their xbox controllers turns off by pressing Guide button combo?

I am trying to understand if it's the issue on my side or it's just Steam acts up.

I have an Electric Volt variant of the controller.

holding xbox/ps/home/guide for a few seconds isnt bad

if you really want, you can bind a chord button for it
steam -> settings -> controller -> chord [edit] -> edit and pick a button and set it to turn off controller
hold guide and hit the assigned button

and by defaults xbox controllers will auto turn off after about 15min of inactivity, no way to change that at all

Have you tried that yourself recently? Does it work on a windows OS?

The chord shortcut doesn't work with Xbox controllers (it does work with Dual Shock 4 however).

Why doesn't it work with Xbox?

You know, sometimes reading the post clears a lot of things up.

I tried a regular Bluetooth connection and an Xbox wireless adapter.

Is there a way to cut the hold time down? I find like I’m holding the guide button for WAY too long.

if you pair it with a steam link or android/ios phone, then use steam link app, that can turn it off with chord shortcut
in link app settings, you can disable video/audio stream, so it only streams input controls
Why is it bad to hold the button down to turn it off?? This seems silly...

Because you have to hold the button for WAY too long.
hey guys. I've written a small app with C# that changes audio device when big picture starts.
I couldn't find a way to disable the xbox controller so I just turn off bluetooth on bp exit. it's a workaround for now.

Please consider visiting my github to get the app. Any feedbaack is appreciated.
