The question is are they okay for you? If they are it doesn't matter others think. Some will say to slow and others will say faster than them.
Well I'd have to pay £50 a month for speeds like that. Current is 100 mbps down and up for £35 per month.

Dam, I pay £40 for 1000 mbps, 200 up.
No fiber in your area yet?

There is full fibre as we call in the UK in my area, but since they are the only network they charge what they like. Zero competition as the rest are using FTTC fibre to the cabinet. Half copper, half fibre.

Mine is full fiber right into the house, but there is comp from different providers you can use, I went with Virgin.

Yeah BT or TalkTalk the big players here just aren't on that network yet. The company doesn't seem to want to give up the full fibre infrastructure to them. At least for the time being. It was Openreach that helped them set it all up as well to the exchange. But I suppose BT and Openreach are not joint like they used to be.

Community Fibre has full fibre- 5Gbps/5000Mbps download and upload for about £50. Less than what VirginMedia charges for 1Gbps with trash upload speeds.

Community Fibre and VirginMedia aren't options in my area. We get TalkTalk, BT, PlusNet, and a local Broadband altnet the only one that currently offers full fibre. That's excluding 4G router options like EE but that'd be my last pick.

You can always get a deal with Virgin, I pay less than £50, I thought the upload was weak vs some others but then thought what do I actually upload, nothing.

Virgin is probably the best in most places in UK.
But there are new companies emerging with their own full fiber network and very good pricing. Like 1Gbps for £25pm + the first 6months free.
Most people don't need high upload speed but single digit jitter, ping and overall stability of full fiber connection is fantastic for gaming. The only problem is coverage when even in London it can be an issue - a deal breaker in fact.

That's fast!

OpenReach are an old BT company who have a very long history of ripping off customers. They will charge whatever they can get away with.

Until recently, I didn't realise that OpenReach pricing depends on your exact location and, more to the point, what competition is in your area. When Virgin installed fibre in my region, OpenReach significantly reduced their prices.

Having said that, the ISP's REQUIRE negotiation. I have to contact mine every 18 months and negotiate a deal, which is usually a 25% pcm reduction. If you don't negotiate then you are getting a terrible deal!!

It's also worth paying attention to in-contract price rises. Some companies don't have them. Others do, in the very, very fine print.

At last! Someone else who thinks that £50 a month is a lot to pay for a service!!

Broadband is highly negotiable in the UK. Play the ISP's against each other. I get a 25% reduction, because I negotiate. Look for other suppliers then phone your current supplier up and ask them whether your contract has expired because you want to leave. They will usually offer you a much better deal. If they don't, then leave.

I’m aware of out of contract prices as I often deal with these companies. I’m salty with Virgin Media as they recently doubled the price for me and refused to lower it - £87pm. They suggested to quit, wait one month and start a new contract as a solution. But they are still the best option in many, many places in UK.

BT screwed me over really bad when I was 3months without broadband in a place where I had 2 separate phone and broadband lines. One of them on BT business contract for better customer support and to be sure the broadband is never down and I have a backup. Oh, the irony.
Community Fibre makes the least problems for me. They can install everything even on the next day in some cases and bring all the equipment. Equipment that is decent even on the lowest package and upgradable to mesh WiFi.
They charge £19pm for a 100Mbps service and offer up to 6months for free. Or 12months if you know a sales agent.

I thought they had to split back in the day to avoid a monopoly with the system, Openreach is supposed to allow any company rent their network I thought.
I'm with Virgin but not through the cable they laid years ago it's through the Openreach net.
I'm surprised in the UK we have areas locked to a particular service using Openreach I thought that wasn't allowed.
