Going From Intel To AMD CPU
I am thinking about moving over to AMD from Intel, I currently have an i9 12900k and an RTX5090, what AMD CPU would you suggest to be a good "upgrade" mainly for games and some video editing and rendering..

You need the best Intel or AMD has to offer and then it's not always enough if you want to max the 5090 out.

I have a 9800X3D and pretty easy to be CPU bound if your pushing for max frames.

It's going to be more of a side grade tbh, atleast for gaming, you'll gain some max fps, plus but more frequent dips, id say look at which your chosen editing software prefers, but I'd question the real value in the upgrade, unless you are on a ddr4 mobo so will be upgrading to DDR5 also.

Could also wait and see what intel's next chips turn out like, the 12 P core no e core ones, I you are in no rush to upgrade.

Not looking to max out the GPU, as I always lock frames to 120fps (where possible) in games, not 100% sure if the 9950X3D or the 990X3D want to order it tonight along with the ASUS ROG STRIX X870E-E AM5

If you are locking fps to 120 you won't gain anything and the only change will be in the non gaming side of things, in which case go with the option known to work best abd be most stable with your chosen program and work out if saving the couple seconds to maybe minutes us worth the 1000 bucks youll be spending.

That money might be better spent in other upgrades or simply put aside until the next generstion

I don't know how you feel... I did not just get a big surprise inheritance and definetly have not just carried out a ridiculous (for the majority) home cinema upgrade I totally needed....

As long as the memory is CL 28 you atleast gave good memory for AMD, could always get faster and boost performance for your existing cpu though for a solid saving.

I can usually lock 120, 240 is a bit harder, I often tend to lock just below the lowest FPS for a smooth ride, I'm even liking 120 FPS with 2x frame gen for 240.
Thanks to all the replies, I have decided to go with the ASUS ROG STRIX X870E-E AM5 and the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D from Scan Computers..

Nice. I personally really like your mobo choice.

Thank you, I am a bit annoyed though as I currently have the Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX XT AIO, and my partner threw the box out with the AM5 socket fixture, so also ended up buying the Corsair iCUE LINK TITAN 360 RX RGB AIO.. :(

You can contact support and they will either send you one gir free or charge you a couple bucks, you will likely need proof of purchase though.

Will take too long to get an AM5 bracket from them, want to build my pc on Saturday..
Just lock FPS or use Adaptive sync. Your cureent specs should be fine for years still.

Maybe get a good GSync or FreeSync Premium display if don't have one already. Such as 1440p 16:9 or 21:9
