If you have an alternative way to get the map files it should still work. You can use the Steam Depot Downloader to actually get updates for games.
I would suggest checking out the "Cozy win7 thread" by Nosteru to see what workarounds are available.
Valve did change the compression method from LZMA2 to ZSTD which isn't supported by the old client and therefore throwing an error at you
You can use an alternative like depotdownloader to download games and etc from Steam
then again i have yet to be affected by the downloading issues generally
I'm shocked I tell you. Theres zero reasons to be running a dead OS as your main rig.
I don't get what is really stopping you from running something newer tbh
Like if you prefer 7 the most then I get it but it looks like you want to move on as your OS is becoming a problem to you then what is the issue?
2. media installer is saying "missing 32bit binaries" on the aforementioned better one, despite a 64bit OS being used, and it refuses to elaborate on the missing ones too
so far those are the only identifiable ones
if your wondering what hardware i have to use till a new storage device can be tossed into it, then you'll know why it won't benefit much from a OS upgrade
HP Pavilion p6 2012 model
CPU: AMD A6-3650 APU
RAM: 8 GB DDR3(i have no idea what mhz)
GPU: AMD A6-3650 APU(Integrated)
TLDR: such low end hardware is worse then a 1st gen i3 lmao, it wouldn't have much of a gain in the first place
