But holding it just via the PCIE slot ... I wouldn't risk it. Not only can the weight be a problem but all those constant temp changes also strain the material.
Sounds like the mainboard may be just a little out of alignment in the case,
I am guessing you are complaining about your case being warped or the GPU not being able to be screwed at the rear of the case(?).
If it's Gigabyte...ohhhhh boy...
and for physical support
Not to mention not aligned or being held in place properly can put more stress on the PCIE slot too.
Now if you lay the Motherboard flat and do it, then the weight of the GPU card should be enough to keep it down in the slot but would still need to be careful not to have the card flex or move left/right at all too
That’d probably make the card or mono’s lifespan shorter, in the best case.
My GPU is missing a few because when I upgraded it didn't quite fit into where the brackets held the old one, and there was no other place to secure it.
Of the 4 screws that held in my old GPU, only 2 of them hold in my new(er) one. Haven't had an issue in the year since I've swapped them.
it could wiggle it's self loose over time, and potentially make the socket looser... but given how frequently people replace their PCs these days you'll likely never run into an issue.
