8bitdo and Half-Life (source)
My controller seems to work with all my games, except for Half Life. Even when I set steam key bindings to WASD, it will not allow the left stick to control movement.

The settings appear fine, but don't seem to actually be set while playing that one game.

Any ideas?

Try launching BigPictureMode > Half-Life and then once in-game bring up the overlay and double check the controller from there. Some games tbat were never made or designed with controller in mind have to be done tbat way

Tried it, same problem.

The maddening thing is: the menus function with the controls just fine. Until the game opens. Using Training to test the problem out.
Ok well it must be that game then, not sure.

I have in the past years tried Steam Input for many games that never had controller support and it always worked fine to map Keyboard keys or even mouse-look and such to the controller. And I've used 8BitDo for many years now.

One problem is with Steam though in some games. You might need to change the controller settings in Steam and disable the Xbox and Sony DS options and enable the Nintendo Switch option instead.

Good thing I downloaded the manual when I bought a used one.

The new one should be shipped in for pick up tomorrow.
Most products make you download a PDF manual anyways to help save on paper products being waste.

Before you even buy something that has a manual you can easily go online on a phone tablet or whatever and download the product pdf manual so you can review it before even buying a product
