Did Windows Update corrupt my BIOS?
So, story time - I'd just finished a session of Cyberpunk and noticed there was a windows update, I installed it as usual and my PC rebooted,]

It rebooted to a black screen that just said

"New CPU installed. fTPM/PSP NV corrupted or fTPM/PSP NV structure changed.

Press Y to reset fTPM. If you have Bitlocker or encryption enabled, the system will not boot without a recovery key.

Press N to keep previous fTPM record and continue system boot. fTPM will NOT enable in new CPU, you can swap back to the old CPU to recover TPM related keys and data"

I tried to press Y but the PC was frozen, I hit the reset button and this time made it to the BIOS, but again it crashed almost instantly.

I tried rebooting again and this time the BIOS looked like this:

After a frantic trip to the local supermarket i managed to fix it using a USB stick and BIOS flashback. but i'm just wondering what could have caused it, I've been on that BIOS forever with no issues, can a Windows Update really corrupt a BIOS or did I just get super unlucky?

I think something created a conflict; to put it in "simple terms" , some stuff got messed up with something else, your PC reacts with a big "nope".
Happens.

windows update often reinstalls generic drivers

get the correct ones from the mobo mfg site
chipset, lan, audio, bt/wifi

windows can force bios updates, which should be disabled
only update bios yourself, never let windows try to do it itself

There might be a software install setting in your bios. Disable it.

Don't update your bios through automatic settings/windows as others have said.

Mainboard has a bios flash back port on the back panel. Can reflash the bios that way if you want.

Could be a windows issue.

Any extra usb stuff plugged in?

You should disable driver and system updates in Windows Update or it will automatically do things including update BIOS. But not all BIOS makers submit to Windows Update, and the thing is that the Windows Update BIOS could be older than your current version.

In BIOS flashback modes, it would prevent you from "upgrading" to an older BIOS, but Windows Update does not have that restriction and it may not check the BIOS version either.

This is usually an issue on laptops, I am surprised that your MB manufacturer put anything in Windows Update.

Also do not use Motherboard Software from Windows to update your BIOS.
