Laptop fan stuck at max RPM after gaming session – ASUS TUF FX505DT
Hi everyone,
I'm having a really frustrating issue with my laptop, and I’d appreciate any advice. Here are my specs:

Model: ASUS TUF FX505DT
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3750H with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx @ 2.30 GHz
RAM: 16 GB (15.8 GB usable)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (4 GB) + Radeon RX Vega 10 Graphics (integrated)
(Guarantee ended)

The issue:
After around 5 minutes of playing games or putting the system under some load, both the CPU and GPU fans ramp up to maximum RPM. However, only the GPU fan seems to slow down afterward. The CPU fan stays at 5800–6000 RPM indefinitely, even after closing all programs or returning to idle.

The only way to stop the CPU fan is to either restart the laptop or put it into sleep mode for a while. It feels like the fan control just gives up once a certain threshold is hit.

What I've tried:
Clean Windows reinstall with all drivers and Armoury Crate
Thermal paste replaced and fans cleaned by a technician
Installed Ryzen Controller to reduce CPU temps and try to apply limits
BIOS updated to the latest version (fan curves can’t be customized on this model)

From what I can tell, the breaking point seems to be around 60°C for the CPU. Once it hits that, the fan kicks into high gear and never comes back down.

I’m also starting to wonder if the GPU might be contributing somehow. It idles at around 39°C consistently — maybe it's transferring heat to the CPU? Not sure.

My question:
Is there any workaround or fix? Or is my laptop basically only good for office work now?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I have same problem, have to reboot
Unless you're concerned with energy usage, there's no harm in having the fan at full.

Have you tried earlier versions of armoury crate?

I've seen similar issue, but to another direction, fans not reaching full speed. Was only fixed after clean install and reinstalling earlier version of armoury crate.

Hey guys, quick update — I think the earlier version of Armoury Crate might actually be the fix.

If anyone’s interested, I downgraded the ASUS System Control Interface to version 2, and installed Armoury Crate Service Utility v2.1.1.
(The only downside is that there’s no GUI — or maybe it’s just a system bug, hard to tell.)

Anyway, I tested it by playing The Gunk, and so far, so good.
Most of the time the GPU fan was doing the work, keeping temps around 45°C, while the CPU fan would kick in occasionally — but the important part is, it didn’t go nuts this time.

After closing the game, both fans went silent, which is already a huge win compared to what I had before.
(Sure, the GPU fan was kinda loud during gameplay, but honestly — I’m just happy it actually calmed down afterward.)

I’ll keep monitoring things a bit more and post an update if the problem’s fully gone.

Thanks to everyone who replied!

I'd be concerned about putting "miles" on a fan, myself. However, I mainly just use custom towers, with bigger fans than I usually see with portables, so potential bias for me from that.
